The question of How To Find Where a Sub-folder sits in Outlook has been posted, but the answers have not been helpful so far. However, I have found a way that helped me and would like to share in hopes that it will help others.

1.       Open Outlook (formerly Hotmail)

2.       Open the email that is in the sub-folder you are interested in (you should see the name of the sub-folder to the right

3.       Click the drop down arrow on the Move button on the ribbon at the top of your screen

4.       Click Select a different folder

5.       Highlight your email address in the folder pane, which should be just above Inbox (the pop-up will minimize/shrink)

6.       In the Type folder or group name field, type the name of the sub-folder you are looking for

7.       Click the drop down arrow next to your email address to display the folder & sub-folder details. Here you will see the full path of the email, including the subfolder's location in the folder tree.

In Outlook.com or Outlook on the web, use a message from the missing subfolder and the Move to a different folder dialog to reveal where that folder is nested.

    Locate the subfolder

    1. Search for and open a message known to be in the subfolder.
    2. On the toolbar, select Move.
    3. Select Move to a different folder. This opens the mailbox folder tree.^1^
    4. Select the mailbox name—the entry immediately above Inbox.
    5. In Type folder or group name, enter the subfolder’s name.
    6. Expand the arrow beside the mailbox and any displayed parent folders. The folder’s position in the expanded tree reveals its parent and full hierarchy.
    7. Close or cancel the dialog after noting the location. Do not select the folder to complete the move unless you intend to move the message.

As an alternative, the folder-name label shown on a known message may be selectable in new Outlook; selecting it can open that folder directly. Once found, right-click the folder and select Add to Favorites so it remains visible.^2^

If the folder pane itself is hidden, select the three-line menu at the left side of Outlook.com to display it.^3^
