Changing the time zone alone does not synchronize the clock, so first enable automatic date, time, and time-zone settings, restart Windows, and retry Update Stack Package version [IP Address].
1. Synchronize the complete clock
- Open Start → Settings → Time & language → Date & time.
- Turn on:
- Set time automatically
- Set time zone automatically
- Confirm the displayed date and time are currently correct.
- Restart the PC.
- Open Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
Microsoft documents date, time, and time-zone controls separately, so the time-zone change you already tried does not establish that Windows synchronized the actual date and clock.^1^
“Please check your date and time zone” is the message currently available—not a hexadecimal error code. Do not assume it is 0x800b0101; that code appears only in a separate report involving the same package version.^2^
2. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
If the same error returns immediately:
- Open Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
- Select Run next to Windows Update.
- Apply any recommended changes and restart.
- Return to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.^3^
Then verify the Insider prerequisites:
- Settings → System → Activation: Windows must be activated.
- Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program:
- Confirm Dev Channel is selected.
- Confirm the expected Microsoft account is linked.
- Settings → Privacy & security → Diagnostics & feedback: enable Send optional diagnostic data.
- Run
winverand record the complete version and OS build. - Check the flight announcement for that build for known update-blocking issues.
These are Microsoft’s documented checks when an Insider device is not receiving builds.^4^
The Dev Channel is preview software intended for testing and feedback. Insider builds can be less stable than production builds and eventually expire, so they are not ideal for a PC that must remain consistently reliable.^5^
3. Repair Windows servicing files
If synchronization, the troubleshooter, and enrollment checks do not help, open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish, restart, and check for updates again. Microsoft recommends DISM followed by SFC when damaged Windows components prevent updates.^6^
4. Repair the Insider installation with an ISO
Use this only after recording the OS build and any hexadecimal error shown in Settings → Windows Update → Update history:
- Back up important files.
- Download the appropriate Windows Insider Preview ISO.
- In File Explorer, open the ISO and run
setup.exe. - Select Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps.
- Complete Setup, then verify Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program.
If Setup does not offer Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps, cancel it; continuing with another choice can remove data or applications. Microsoft documents this as the supported Insider ISO in-place-upgrade procedure.^7^
If it still fails
Press Windows+F to open Feedback Hub. Include:
- Update Stack Package version
[IP Address] - Full OS build from
winver - Exact hexadecimal error from Update history, if present
- Screenshot of the message
- Feedback Hub diagnostic logs
Microsoft recommends filing Feedback Hub data for unresolved Insider-build problems.^4^
If reliability matters more than testing Dev builds, open Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program → Stop getting preview builds. Returning immediately to stable Windows can require recovery or reinstallation; back up files first.^5^
