Emails placed in desktop folders will not open

I have taken important emails and placed them in individual folders on my desktop. These files will not open.

I get a message that says Temporary unavailable.

    What are the actual files you placed in folders? Are they .eml files saved from an email program? What program? Are they shortcuts or links to messages in browser based web mail? What email and browser?
