I am the only owner of a Teams group. I accidently deleted myself instead of someone else. How can I get back in? There are years of notes in there. Help! FYI this is not Teams for business I use 365 at home.

Hello

There are still others in that group, right?

If so, have them add you back, using the AI answer.

Or, have them click on the member icon, use the "invite via link", then copy the link and send it to you so you can join the group yourself.

Ask any current participant in the group chat to add you back and select the option to include the full chat history.

What the other participant should do

    On desktop or web:

    1. Open the original group chat.
    2. Select View and add participants in the upper-right corner.
    3. Select Add people.
    4. Enter the Microsoft account you use with Teams Personal.
    5. When prompted, choose to include all chat history.
    6. Select Add.

    On mobile:

    1. Open the original group chat.
    2. Tap the participant names at the top.
    3. Tap Add people.
    4. Select your account and choose to include the full chat history.
    5. Tap Done.

Teams supports choosing how much history to include when adding someone to an existing group chat, including the complete history back to the first message.^1^

    Important points

    • A personal Teams group chat does not use a team-owner role like a Microsoft 365 business team. Another remaining participant can re-add you.
    • Leaving removes your access to the conversation; you can rejoin only after someone invites you again.^2^
    • Your previous messages remain in the group-chat history. Ask the participant to add you to the existing chat, rather than creating a new group chat.
    • If the participant is not offered a history-selection option, have them contact Microsoft Support through the Chat with Microsoft support option identified in the Teams support guidance.^1^

Regular Teams Personal group chats do not have an "owner" or administrator, so any member can add other users to this chat. However, if this group chat was migrated from Skype and in Skype this group was created as a "moderated group", then this feature is also transferred to Teams. This means that also in Teams, only the admins of this group can add new users.

If you were the only admin of this group, and now have left this group, then no one will be able to add you back to this group.

If you need access to the chat history of this group, then you should ask other members of this group do export the entire chat history of their account using the Teams export feature.

    https://teams.live.com/dataexport

They can then extract the chat history of this group chat and provide it to you.
