Alerts and Action Groups: Log search alert issue — repeated Resource Unhealthy alerts from platform

Problem description

I am experiencing an issue with my Azure Monitor log search alert rules where I receive intermittent bursts of Resource Unhealthy alerts that are PlatformInitiated. These alerts do not happen constantly but, when they do, they generate a high volume of downstream tickets, sometimes hundreds.

Environment

Service: Alerts and Action Groups; Alert type involved: log search alert rules; Observed alert state/message pattern: repeated Resource Unhealthy alerts with PlatformInitiated noted by the customer.

What I've already tried

I have not tried anything yet.

Current status

I am seeking assistance to understand why these platform-initiated alerts are occurring repeatedly and how to prevent the high volume of downstream tickets they cause.

Likely cause/summary: your log-alert rule is probably healthy overall but intermittently entering a degraded/unhealthy evaluation path (or evaluating noisy platform health signals), and action groups then fan out many notifications/tickets.

    1. Check rule health first (this is the key branch for your symptom).
    2. Validate rule query/evaluation behavior.
    3. Add noise-control at action level (to protect downstream ticketing).
    4. Add deduplication/guardrails in the ticketing connector.
      • Use alert essentials (rule ID, resource ID, fired time, monitor condition) as dedup keys.
      • Rate-limit or merge repeated platform-initiated alerts within a short window.
    5. Escalate with evidence if bursts continue.
      • Provide: alert rule ARM ID, sample fired alert IDs, exact UTC burst windows, query text, evaluation settings, and action group targets.
      • This lets support verify whether platform-initiated health events are expected or a backend issue.

    Confirmed facts from your post:

    • Bursts are intermittent.
    • Alert text references Resource Unhealthy and PlatformInitiated.
    • Bursts are creating large downstream ticket volume.

Possible cause (not yet confirmed): repeated platform-health transitions or noisy evaluation state causing frequent alert state changes.

    Validation checks:

    • Rule health remains stable over multiple cycles.
    • Burst frequency drops after processing-rule and query tuning.
    • Ticket volume aligns with unique incidents instead of repeated duplicates.
