Please preserve E-tree history and issue personalized certificates to participants

I am deeply disappointed and genuinely heartbroken to see E-tree suddenly disappear from MSN Weather. I was actively using it just hours ago. When I returned to my laptop to collect the 200 Energy Points available during the 12:00-14:00 period, I was surprised to find that the icon had completely vanished.

For many of us, E-tree was far more than just a feature. It gave meaning to our daily engagement by connecting it to a positive environmental cause. We invested our time, effort, and consistency because we believed we were contributing, however modestly, to something bigger than ourselves.

Therefore, I respectfully request that Microsoft either restore E-tree or provide a clear explanation regarding its status.

If E-tree has been discontinued, Microsoft should provide every participant with access to their complete E-tree history and a record of the real-world impact they helped create.

More importantly, Microsoft should issue an official personalized certificate of participation bearing each user's full legal name exactly as it appears on their Microsoft account. This should not be a generic badge or an anonymous statistic. It should be a formal certificate recognizing that a named individual voluntarily devoted time and effort to support an initiative focused on environmental sustainability and the greater good of humanity.

Recognition matters. When people choose to stand for something positive, their commitment deserves to be acknowledged. For many participants, such a certificate would become a meaningful and lasting reminder that they took part in an effort to leave the world a little better than they found it.

Users who spent months or years supporting this initiative deserve more than the silent disappearance of a feature. They deserve transparency, access to their achievements, and meaningful recognition of their contribution.

Please restore access to E-tree records or provide participants with an official certificate and a final summary of their impact. That would be a fitting and respectful way to honor the community that believed in this initiative.

    Hello, I’m Virginia.

Microsoft will not see your comments/suggestions/complaint on the community so I would recommend sending Microsoft feedback via the app - Windows key + F key or via the web:

Thank you for the information. However, I would like to note that MSN Weather still displays an E-tree toggle in Weather Settings on my account as of today. This is one reason users are confused about the current status of the program. Regardless of whether E-tree is active or retired, I hope Microsoft will consider providing participants with access to their historical contribution data and an official personalized certificate recognizing their participation in this environmental initiative.

Microsoft retired E-tree starting July 4, 2025, so it cannot be restored through MSN Weather settings; submit the history-export and personalized-certificate proposal through MSN’s built-in feedback tool for review by the product team.

The official FAQ says E-tree was discontinued because of limited user engagement. Trees completed before retirement will be planted, and existing planted trees will continue to be cared for by Eden Reforestation Projects. Progress toward an incomplete tree was lost when the program ended.^1^

    Records and certificates

Microsoft’s published E-tree FAQ does not document:

    • An E-tree history export or recovery process.
    • A final participant impact statement.
    • Personalized certificates bearing the participant’s legal name.
    • Migration of E-tree records or certificates into Microsoft Rewards.

Consequently, Microsoft Q&A community members cannot retrieve those account records, restore the feature, or issue an official certificate. The FAQ records that more than one million trees had been planted through the program, but that aggregate figure is not an individual participation record.^1^

Submit the request to the MSN product team

    1. Open MSN or MSN Weather while signed in to the Microsoft account used for E-tree.
    2. Select Feedback in the lower-right corner. If it is not visible, open the Settings gear and select the feedback option.
    3. Request all three outcomes explicitly:
      • Access to or export of the complete E-tree history.
      • A final summary of completed trees and associated program impact.
      • An official personalized participation certificate.
    4. Include:
      • The approximate dates of participation.
      • The number of completed trees, if known.
      • The platforms used: MSN Weather, Edge, or Microsoft Wallet.
      • Screenshots of previous E-tree progress or certificates, if available.
      • A request that Microsoft explain whether historical account data remains recoverable.
    5. Do not include sensitive account information, passwords, or government identification in the feedback text.

Microsoft states that feedback is passed to its editorial and product teams. However, the feedback system does not record the submitter’s email address, so it normally cannot provide an individual reply.^2^

If the Energy Points interface remained visible after July 4, 2025, that does not establish that E-tree continued operating: the retirement terms still apply, and Microsoft has not announced a replacement tree-planting program.^3^
