The 'Repair Now' button on that error popup dialog only performs a quick repair of the Office apps and that rarely resolves the problem with the Office apps, the best option is to perform a full online repair of your Office installation.

Before performing this process to ensure you do not loose the Office installation during the repair, please log into your Microsoft account on this link (https://account.microsoft.com/services/) and check to ensure your Office licence or Microsoft 365 subscription is listed correctly on your account.

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Apps - Installed Apps, then scroll down to find Microsoft Office

Select that and choose Modify - Online Repair

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation.

If that does not resolve the problem, completely uninstall Office, restart your PC, then download and reinstall Office from your account online (https://account.microsoft.com/services/).

On a Windows PC, run an Online Repair of Microsoft 365 or Office because the file-level Open and Repair option you tried cannot repair the PowerPoint application itself.

    1. Run Online Repair

    Close all Office applications first.

    Windows 11

    1. Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
    2. Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
    3. Select the three dots beside it, then Modify.
    4. Select Online Repair → Repair.
    5. Complete the prompts, restart the computer if requested, and then launch PowerPoint directly from the Start menu.

    Windows 10

    1. Right-click Start and select Apps and Features.
    2. Select Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
    3. Select Modify.
    4. Choose Online Repair → Repair and complete the prompts.

Online Repair repairs the entire Office installation and is more thorough than Quick Repair.^1^

    2. If PowerPoint still will not start, test Safe Mode

Safe Mode starts PowerPoint without its add-ins:

    1. Press Windows key + R.
    2. Enter:
    powerpnt /safe

    1. Press Enter.

If PowerPoint opens and its title bar says Safe Mode:

    1. Select File → Options → Add-ins.
    2. At the bottom, choose COM Add-ins under Manage, then select Go.
    3. Clear the add-in check boxes and select OK.
    4. Close PowerPoint and open it normally.
    5. Re-enable add-ins one at a time to identify the one causing the startup failure.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/office/lifecycle/i-get-a-stopped-working-error-when-i-start-office-applications-on-my-pc "I get a "stopped working" error when I start Office applications on my PC | Microsoft Support")

If PowerPoint does not start in Safe Mode, add-ins are not the issue. If Online Repair has also failed, uninstall and reinstall Office next.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/office/lifecycle/i-get-a-stopped-working-error-when-i-start-office-applications-on-my-pc "I get a "stopped working" error when I start Office applications on my PC | Microsoft Support")

    3. Reinstall only if Online Repair fails

Before uninstalling, ensure that the Microsoft account or work/school account associated with Office is available.

    1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    2. Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
    3. Select its menu and choose Uninstall.
    4. Restart Windows.
    5. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Apps page using the account associated with the license.
    6. Select Install apps, run the installer, and then open PowerPoint to activate it.^3^

If this is a Mac rather than Windows, do not use the Windows repair steps; the exact macOS version and Office edition are needed to select the correct recovery procedure.
