Organization Issues in New Yahoo Mail on Microsoft Edge in Windows 11 26H2

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well.

I am not able to successfully organize my New Yahoo Mail using Microsoft Edge in Windows 11. I have the latest versions of both.

When I try to move messages from Archive or Inbox to a (different) folder on my Android phone using the YouMail app, the messages land where I want them. When I try to do this using Microsoft Edge in either normal or InPrivate mode, the messages appear to stay where they were.

I had a session with New Yahoo Mail's Chat about this issue less than an hour ago, and I turned off and restarted my laptop per instructions, but nothing changed.

Please help. This is more than annoying. I have a few thousand emails in my Yahoo account, and I need to be able to organize them properly.

Thank you in advance!

I will have to see what happens when I have messages in my New Yahoo Mail Archive again. I did the repair. Thanks meanwhile!

Hi, thanks for the detailed response!

The issue is with a very specific situation: messages that are either labeled Archive (although that folder is empty), or messages I moved from that designation to the Inbox. I will have to see whether there are any other such messages that I want to move.

It works fine in Firefox, which I'm using in "normal" mode. It's clearly an Edge issue.

Delete only Yahoo’s cookies and site data in Edge, sign back in, and test one message with Yahoo’s Move command before clearing broader browser data or repairing Edge.

    1. Reset Yahoo’s site data only

Since restarting did not help and the same behavior occurs in InPrivate, move to a targeted website reset:

    1. In Edge, select Settings and more (…) → Settings → Privacy, search, and services.
    2. Open Cookies → See all cookies and site data.
    3. Search for yahoo.
    4. Delete each Yahoo entry shown. This signs you out of Yahoo but avoids deleting data for unrelated websites.^1^
    5. Close every Yahoo Mail tab, reopen Yahoo Mail, and sign in again.
    6. Select one unimportant message, choose Move, and select the destination folder. This is Yahoo’s documented operation for moving mail into folders.^2^
    7. Refresh the page, then inspect both the original and destination folders.

Do not test thousands of messages until a single-message move remains correct after a refresh.

    2. Determine whether the move failed or only the page failed to update

Immediately after moving the test message:

    • Open its destination folder directly.
    • Search for the message by its exact subject.
    • Refresh Yahoo Mail or sign out and back in.
    • Check the same message on the Android app.

If the message appears in the destination on Android but remains displayed in Inbox or Archive in Edge, the server-side move succeeded and Edge is showing stale Yahoo web content. If it remains in the original folder on every device, the Yahoo web operation itself failed.

Also use Move, rather than Archive: Yahoo documents archiving as a separate action from moving a message into a custom folder.^3^

    3. Test Edge privacy handling

Edge privacy protections can cause parts of websites to malfunction. While Yahoo Mail is open:

    1. Select the site-information icon at the left of the address bar.
    2. Turn Tracking prevention for this site off.
    3. Reload Yahoo Mail and repeat the one-message test.

Alternatively, go to Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Tracking prevention → Exceptions → Add a site and add the full Yahoo Mail address. An exception allows all trackers on that site, so retain it only if it fixes the problem.^4^

    4. Isolate Yahoo from Edge

Try the same one-message move in another current browser.

    • Works there: the problem is local to Edge. Continue to Edge repair below.
    • Fails there too: contact Yahoo again and report that the move fails in multiple desktop browsers, while the Android app succeeds. Include the message subject, source folder, destination folder, and approximate test time.
    • Move succeeds but the view stays on the old message/folder: review Yahoo’s setting controlling what appears after moving or deleting mail; that display preference is separate from whether the move completed.^5^

This Yahoo-specific symptom is not currently listed among Microsoft’s tracked high-impact Edge issues.^6^

    5. Repair Edge only if another browser works

    1. Close Edge for every signed-in Windows user.
    2. Go to Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    3. Find Microsoft Edge, select Modify, approve the prompt, and choose Repair.
    4. Reopen Edge and test one message again.

Microsoft states that Edge repair should not affect browser data or settings. If Modify is unavailable, Edge may be organization-managed; contact the administrator instead.^7^

If repair does not resolve it, send a browser report through Edge → Settings and more (…) → Help and feedback → Send feedback, and continue using the working Android app or alternate browser while Yahoo investigates.
