How can I change the Windows 11 system desktop default display font from Segoe UI to Arial? Segoe UI is barely readable.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, Windows 11 does not include a native graphical setting to change the system-wide font. However, you can change it to Arial using either a third-party customization tool or a Registry modification file.

    Option 1: Use WinAero Tweaker

Download and install WinAero Tweaker. Open the application, scroll down to Advanced Appearance Settings in the left-hand navigation pane, and select System Font. Check the box for Use the following font and click Change system font. Select Arial from the list of installed fonts and click OK. Click Sign out now at the bottom of the window to apply the changes, then log back in.

Option 2: Use a Registry (.reg) file

You can substitute Segoe UI with Arial by adding a FontSubstitutes entry in the Windows Registry. Open Notepad and copy the following code into a new text file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]
    "Segoe UI"="Arial"

In Notepad, select File > Save As. Set Save as type to All Files (.), name the file change-font-arial.reg, and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the saved file and click Yes or Continue to merge it into the Windows Registry. Restart your computer for the font substitution to take effect.

Note that modifying the Registry or changing system fonts may leave some modern interfaces, such as the Settings app or specific Microsoft Store apps, unaffected because Windows hardcodes parts of its modern interface. To revert to the default font, open Registry Editor (regedit) and delete the Segoe UI string value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes.
