Every minute or so, a random pop-up would appear on edge with the error said above. Please help, as it is really annoying. This is on Windows 11. I tried fixing everything in the services.msc, tried logging out and now cannot sign in again, sfc /scannow, wsreset, and many many others.

Hi Bill,

Please check the status of the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service. Open Command Prompt (admin) and run these commands:

sc.exe config wlidsvc start= demand

net start wlidsvc

sc.exe query wlidsvc

Post the output.

If the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service starts correctly but the error message in Edge doesn't disappear, export the "Administrative Events" log from the Windows Event Viewer and share it on OneDrive and post the download link here.

To do so, right-click Start and click Event Viewer. In Event Viewer, navigate to Custom Views, and then select Administrative Events. Right-click on the "Administrative Events" entry and choose "Save All Events As..." to save the log as a .evtx file. Zip the file and share it on OneDrive or GoFile.io.

For 0x80070422 on Windows 11, the supported fix is to make sure the related service is enabled and running.

Since logging out made sign-in fail as well, check the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service:

    1. Press Win + R.
    2. Open services.msc.
    3. Find Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant.
    4. Open it, set Startup type to Manual.
    5. Select Apply.
    6. Start the service.

    Also check Windows Update:

    1. Press Win + R and open services.msc.
    2. Find Windows Update.
    3. If it is not running, right-click it and select Start.

If the pop-up is appearing in Edge repeatedly, also verify Edge is fully updated:

    1. In Edge, open Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
    2. Apply any available update.

If the pop-up continues in Edge, disable extensions one at a time to check whether one is causing repeated browser pop-ups:

    1. In Edge, open Settings and more > Extensions > Manage extension.
    2. Turn extensions off.
    3. Re-enable them one by one until the pop-up returns.

If the pop-up is actually a website-style pop-up, make sure pop-up blocking is enabled:

    1. In Edge, go to Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
    2. Select Site permissions > All permissions.
    3. Open Pop-ups and redirects.
    4. Turn on Blocked (recommended).
