If the key was already redeemed, sign in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase—you normally reinstall and activate Microsoft 365 or Office without entering that key again.^1^
Reinstall or reactivate
- Open the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page.
- Sign in with the account originally used to buy or redeem Office.
- Find Microsoft 365 or Office and select Install.
- After installation, open Word or another Office app and sign in with that same account.
The complete key cannot normally be displayed in Office or online. In an Office app, File → Account → Belongs to may show which Microsoft account owns the license.^1^
If the product is not listed
- Purchased from Microsoft Store but not installed: Sign in to the Microsoft Store with the purchasing account, select your name → Order History, locate Office, and select Install Office to view the key.^2^
- Purchased from another retailer: Check the receipt, confirmation email, packaging, or product-key card. If the key is missing or unusable, contact the seller.
- Provided by work or school: Contact the organization’s IT administrator. Volume-licensed Office may require an administrator-supplied key.^1^
- Still cannot recover the license: Contact Microsoft Support and retain the receipt or other proof of purchase. Microsoft’s guidance directs unresolved product-key cases to Support.^2^
Do not post your product key, email address, receipt, or account details publicly.
