The “Your credit is already redeemed” message means the personal Microsoft account used for activation has previously redeemed Azure credits through another Microsoft program; the visible Unlock startup credits option does not override that redemption status.^1^

Check whether the $200 was already applied

    1. Sign in to Azure using the same personal Microsoft account used for the startup application.
    2. Open Cost Management + Billing → Payment methods.
    3. Look for the startup sponsorship or credit balance. Credits can take several hours after successful activation to appear.^1^
    4. Also check Cost Management + Billing → Billing profiles and confirm that the selected directory and billing profile belong to the expected account.

If the sponsorship is present, the $200 has already been redeemed; there is nothing further to activate for that milestone.

If no sponsorship or credit appears

Check the account shown in the startup portal:

    • It must be the personal Microsoft account associated with the application—not a work or school/Entra ID account.
    • An account previously used for Azure Free Trial, Azure for Students, another startup offer, sponsorship, or promotional Azure credits can produce this redemption or eligibility conflict.^2^
    • Do not create another application or switch accounts arbitrarily, because the startup entitlement may remain attached to the original account.

This is a program entitlement issue rather than a normal Azure resource problem. Submit it to Microsoft for Startups Program Support, which handles startup-credit activation, incorrect sponsorship offers, entitlement ownership, and benefit-redemption problems.^3^

    Include:

    • A screenshot showing both Unlock startup credits and Your credit is already redeemed
    • The startup/application name
    • The Microsoft account type used, with the address partially masked
    • Whether Cost Management + Billing → Payment methods shows an Azure Sponsorship offer
    • Any previous Azure trial, student, startup, sponsorship, or promotional offer associated with that account

    About unlocking more than $200

The initial milestone is up to $200. Higher credits are not unlocked merely by clicking the button:

    • $5,000: complete business verification.
    • $25,000 and above: meet sustained Azure workload and usage requirements.
    • Microsoft evaluates and upgrades qualifying accounts automatically; a separate application for each tier is not required.^4^

Therefore, if the $200 sponsorship is already present, proceed with business verification and program milestones. If it is absent, Program Support must review the account’s redemption and entitlement state.
