Azure Subscription Disabled Due to Suspicious Activity — Urgent Assistance Required for Business-Critical Application and Data Recovery

2026-10-31T08:41:58.9966667+00:00

Hello Microsoft Azure Community and Support Team,

We urgently need assistance regarding our Microsoft Azure subscription, which was unexpectedly disabled on 30 October 2026, severely affecting our upcoming production launch.

We are SOMI Entertainment (PVT) LTD, a registered company in Sri Lanka developing SOMIWAVE, a music streaming and entertainment platform.

Our Azure infrastructure includes:

  • Azure Container Apps (ASP.NET Core APIs)

Azure SQL Database

Azure Cache for Redis

Azure SignalR / real-time services

Supporting networking, configurations and application infrastructure

Issue:

Our Azure billing dashboard displays the following warning:

"We've identified suspicious activity in your account. To protect your account, we've disabled it. Please contact Azure Support to resolve the issue."

However, our billing dashboard confirms:

Outstanding balance: USD 0.00

No payment required

Subscription status: Disabled

Billing agreement: Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA)

We have not received a clear explanation identifying the suspicious activity or the specific steps required to resolve the restriction.

Existing Microsoft Support Case: 2610300030001784

Business Impact:

Our application APIs are unavailable, and we cannot manage or transfer the affected Azure resources. We have invested considerable development effort into configuring the infrastructure, and rebuilding everything from scratch would significantly delay our launch.

We have also established a separate Microsoft Customer Agreement billing account under our registered company, but our preference is to recover the existing infrastructure through an officially supported process.

Our Questions:

How can we request an urgent security review and reinstatement of the disabled subscription?

How can we identify and resolve the suspicious activity flagged by Microsoft?

If immediate reactivation is not possible, can Microsoft temporarily grant authorized access to export our Azure SQL Database, ARM templates, Container Apps configurations and other critical resources?

Is there an official Microsoft-assisted process to transfer or recover resources into another verified corporate Azure subscription?

Can Microsoft preserve our existing resources and data while the investigation is ongoing?

We are fully prepared to provide our company incorporation certificate, D-U-N-S number, identity verification and any other documentation Microsoft requires.

We respect Microsoft's security policies and are seeking an authorized solution, not a workaround to bypass the restriction.

We urgently request guidance from Microsoft Azure engineers or the appropriate support team.

Thank you for your assistance.

Escalate the existing Subscription Management support case and request an Account/Security Review plus re-enablement, because neither a community responder nor a billing transfer can reactivate or move a subscription disabled for suspicious activity.

    Escalate the existing case

Do not open duplicate security-review cases unless the existing case cannot be managed; duplicate submissions can complicate routing.

    1. In the Azure portal, go to Help + support → All support requests.
    2. Open the existing request and select New message.
    3. Ask the assigned engineer to:
      • Route the case to the Account/Subscription Review or security team.
      • Confirm whether identity verification or company documentation is required and provide the secure upload method.
      • State the exact remediation required for reinstatement.
      • Confirm the resource/data retention deadline applicable to this subscription.
      • Confirm whether any support-assisted export can be authorized before reactivation.
    4. Select Change severity and choose the highest level available for the support plan. If an engineer is already assigned and the portal does not permit a severity change, send a message requesting it. Available severity depends on the support plan and regional support hours.^1^
    5. Verify that Advanced diagnostic information is enabled on the case if company policy permits it. Support can collect those diagnostics only when consent is granted through the portal.^1^

Include a concise impact statement such as:

Production launch blocked; all APIs and managed services unavailable. No outstanding balance. Request immediate Account/Security Review, re-enablement requirements, applicable deletion deadline, and confirmation of any authorized data-recovery options while review is pending.

Subscription-management support is available without requiring a paid technical-support plan. The case submitter must ordinarily have Owner, Contributor, Support Request Contributor, or equivalent Microsoft.Support/* permission at subscription scope; account-specific changes or ownership transfers can require billing-administrator authority.^2^

If the existing request cannot be opened or updated, create a second Subscription Management request specifically stating that assistance is needed managing the original request. Microsoft documents that route for problems managing an existing case.^1^

What remains possible while the subscription is disabled

Azure documents a disabled subscription as follows:

    • PUT, PATCH, and POST operations are disabled.
    • Resources can generally still be retrieved or deleted through GET and DELETE.
    • Services are disabled, and subscription ownership transfer is unavailable.^3^

    Consequently:

    • Reading resource metadata might still work where the portal/API operation is purely GET.
    • ARM-template export is not guaranteed, and exported templates can omit secrets, passwords, or properties.^4^
    • A SQL BACPAC export is an active service operation, not merely a metadata read. The available documentation does not establish that Microsoft will temporarily enable it during a security suspension. Request explicit authorization or temporary reactivation through the case.
    • The SQL portal export normally requires an operational database, target storage, and SQL server administrator credentials.^5^

Microsoft’s public documentation does not promise temporary recovery access or a fixed preservation period for a security-review suspension. General subscription-state guidance says that, depending on subscription type, a disabled subscription can remain disabled for 1–90 days before permanent deletion.^3^ Therefore, obtain the subscription-specific deletion date in writing from the assigned engineer.

Transfer or recovery into the corporate subscription

A disabled MCA subscription cannot be transferred.^6^ Resource moves also require both source and destination subscriptions to be active, normally in the same Microsoft Entra tenant, and each resource type must support moving.^7^

    After reactivation:

    1. Confirm both subscriptions are active and in the same tenant:
az account show --subscription <source-subscription-id> \
      --query tenantId --output tsv

az account show --subscription <destination-subscription-id> \
      --query tenantId --output tsv

    1. Check move support and dependencies for every resource type.
    2. Validate the move in the portal before committing it.
    3. Expect resource IDs to change and update scripts, configuration, role assignments, and dependent references.^7^
    4. Where a service cannot move, recreate it from infrastructure-as-code and migrate its data using that service’s supported export/import process.

Security checks that can proceed now

The “suspicious activity” banner does not disclose whether Microsoft detected compromised credentials, unauthorized deployments, payment-instrument risk, or another policy signal. While support reviews the internal flag:

    • Rotate credentials for tenant administrators and subscription owners.
    • Enforce MFA for privileged accounts.
    • Review Microsoft Entra sign-in logs around the disablement time.
    • Review Azure Activity Log and Cost Management for unfamiliar deployments, role assignments, configuration changes, or spending.
    • Record suspected unauthorized objects, but avoid deleting evidence until support confirms what should be preserved.

Microsoft’s incident guidance recommends reviewing Entra sign-ins, Azure Activity Log, spending anomalies, and unauthorized resources, then contacting Azure Support.^8^

Do not post incorporation records, identity documents, tenant details, or support correspondence in this public thread. Provide them only through the secure mechanism specified by the assigned support engineer.
