PHONE LINK SYNC ISSUES

I am experiencing synchronization issues between Microsoft Phone Link and my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7. Both my phone and Phone Link are up to date. My current Phone Link version is 1.26082.121.0.

Phone Link currently shows approximately 200 messages, while my phone shows about 27. In addition, messages I type in Phone Link do not consistently appear on my phone.

I have uninstalled Phone Link, removed its Windows registry entries, and reinstalled the application, but the problem persists. These issues began over two months ago.

Please advise on how to resolve this synchronization problem.

    Hi,

Are those 200 messages from the past 30 days? Phone Link only displays messages from the last 30 days for security reasons. This limitation was already introduced in earlier versions of the app.

If you want to access all your messages from your PC, I suggest using Google Messages on the web at messages.google.com instead. Samsung discontinued its Messages app in July this year and now recommends switching to Google Messages. Since Google Messages supports web access, you can view and manage your messages directly from your PC without relying on Phone Link.

Completely remove the Galaxy Z Fold7 pairing from Phone Link, Windows Mobile Devices, and Link to Windows on the phone, then reset Phone Link and create a new pairing; reinstalling only the Windows app does not remove every part of the cross-device connection.

    1. Fully remove the existing pairing

This clears both the PC-side and Android-side relationship rather than repeating the reinstall already attempted.

    1. On the PC, open Phone Link → Settings → Devices.
    2. Find the Galaxy Z Fold7, select its … menu, and choose Remove.
    3. Open Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mobile devices → Manage devices.
    4. If the phone remains listed, select Remove.
    5. On the Galaxy:
      • Open Settings → Connected devices → Link to Windows, or open Link to Windows from the Quick Panel.
      • Select the Microsoft account and tap Sign out.
    6. If the PC and phone are Bluetooth-paired, remove the phone under Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices, and forget the PC in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.

Microsoft documents all three locations because removing the phone from one location may not fully remove it from the others.^1^

    2. Reset both applications and pair again

    1. On the Galaxy, open Settings → Apps → Link to Windows.
    2. Select Force stop.
    3. Open Permissions and allow SMS, Contacts, Phone, and Storage. Also ensure notification access is allowed.^2^
    4. On the PC, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Phone Link → Advanced options → Reset.
      • This clears Phone Link’s local application data; it does not delete messages stored on the phone.
    5. Restart the phone and PC.
    6. Open Phone Link and pair the Fold7 again using the displayed QR code.

The supported reset procedure explicitly resets the PC app after unlinking the connected devices, then establishes a new link.^3^

After pairing, open Phone Link → Settings → Features → Messages and enable:

    • Allow this app to show text messages from my phone
    • Allow this app to send MMS attachments from my phone
    • Allow this app to receive MMS attachments from my phone
    • Automatically download MMS attachments from my phone^4^

Phone Link normally displays messages sent or received within the last 30 days and does not let you manage or delete phone messages from the PC.^5^ After the new pairing completes, the PC list should rebuild from the currently accessible phone message history rather than the previous connection.

    3. Check the default messaging app if sent messages still differ

If the Fold7 uses Google Messages or another third-party messaging app, test with an ordinary SMS conversation—not an RCS chat. Microsoft notes that third-party default messaging platforms can cause missing messages, while regular SMS/MMS should work.^6^

    For RCS specifically:

    1. Open Settings → Apps → Choose default apps → SMS app on the Galaxy.
    2. Check whether Samsung Messages is available and selected.
    3. If it is available, temporarily set it as the default and test a new conversation from Phone Link.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is listed as supporting Phone Link RCS, but only when Samsung Messages is the default messaging app; availability also depends on the mobile operator and country.^7^ Do not treat switching messaging apps as a way to migrate or delete existing conversations—use it only as a controlled synchronization test.

    4. If a fresh pairing still reproduces both symptoms

File a diagnostic report immediately after reproducing the problem:

    1. Send one uniquely identifiable test message from Phone Link.
    2. Record whether it appears on the phone, whether the recipient receives it, and whether it later disappears.
    3. In Phone Link, open Settings → Feedback & Community → Send feedback.
    4. Allow diagnostic data from the mobile device when prompted.
    5. In Feedback Hub, include:
      • Phone Link version 1.26082.121.0
      • Galaxy Z Fold7 and Android/One UI version
      • Default messaging app
      • Whether the affected conversation is SMS, MMS, or RCS
      • The approximate stale-message count and when the issue began

Microsoft’s documented escalation path for a fully updated but persistently malfunctioning connection is Phone Link’s feedback workflow with mobile diagnostic data.^2^ There is no publicly documented issue specific to Phone Link 1.26082.121.0 and the Galaxy Z Fold7 matching these symptoms.
