Edge fails to open Netflix if the hardware acceleration is set to ON.

I have a LG gram computer running up to date Windows 11. Intel® 11th – 14th Gen Processor Graphics - up to date.

Microsoft Edge up to date.

When I try to run Netflix on Edge, Netflix fails and returns the error D7703-1003-80072F8F. If I turn OFF the hardware acceleration then Netflix runs. Turning off the hardware acceleration, I understand it stops any 4K video and/or ultra HD. Can you provide information so I can correct this?

If I open Netflix in Google Chrome with the hardware acceleration on, it functions correctly. Given this works correctly, it appears that the failure of Netflix on Edge with the hardware acceleration ON is a problem with Microsoft Edge. Can you please provide a solution to this issue???

Since Netflix works only when Use graphics acceleration when available is turned off, the issue is on Edge’s hardware video decode path, not basic connectivity.

    Use this troubleshooting path:

    1. In Edge, go to edge://settings/system.
      • Turn Use graphics acceleration when available on.
      • Restart Edge.
    2. Go to edge://gpu.
      • Verify Video Decode shows Hardware accelerated.
      • If video features show software-only rendering, update the Intel GPU driver again from the device manufacturer and retest.
    3. While reproducing the Netflix failure, open edge://media-internals in another tab.
      • Check which decoder Edge is using.
      • For H.264 content:
        • D3D11VideoDecoder or MediaFoundationVideoDecoder = hardware path
        • FFmpegVideoDecoder = software path
      • If hardware acceleration is enabled but playback still fails, toggle the graphics acceleration setting off and back on, restart Edge, and test again.
    4. Check whether the problem is specific to the current Edge profile.
      • Close Edge.
      • Open Command Prompt and run:
         "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --user-data-dir="%TEMP%\edge-test-profile"

      • Test Netflix in that temporary profile.
      • If it works there, the original profile is likely corrupted.
    5. If the temporary profile works, create a fresh profile:
      • Close all Edge windows.
      • Go to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data.
      • Rename Default to Default.old.
      • Start Edge so it creates a new Default profile.
      • If Edge is stable, copy needed data such as bookmarks from Default.old.
    6. If the issue still occurs, repair Edge:
      • Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Select Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.
    7. If support is needed after that, collect:
      • Edge version from edge://version
      • Recent crash ID from edge://crashes
      • Application Error events from Event Viewer under Windows Logs > Application

    Relevant product behavior:

    • Edge video playback failures can be caused by disabled or problematic hardware acceleration, invalid or missing codec extensions, or security controls that block protected media.
    • For HEVC media, Edge relies on the Windows MediaFoundationVideoDecoder path, and playback can fail if the installed HEVC Video Extension has an invalid license.
    • Edge can also fail on one decoder path while another browser succeeds because decoder paths can differ.

    Hi, good day!

To help narrow down the cause

When was the last time it worked properly?

Have you made any changes to your computer recently?

Have you tried the solutions suggested by the AI yet?

Please try this if it helps.

Open Edge browser then copy and paste this to the address bar

    edge://flags/#edge-playready-drm-win10

    Set it to Disabled

    Click Restart

Disabling PlayReady may help as your Edge browser may then use Widevine DRM instead

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed by clicking "Add comment" below.
