Excel Stock ID: Price MacBook Neo

Using my new MacBook Neo, cannot get cell B1 linkage to a stock and cell B2 to a Price to work. Have spent hours with copilot and hours with technicians. Would like a technician to link to my computer to see the problem.

What works here is:

Enter the company name or ticker symbol in B1
1. In the Data Types group on the Data tab select Stocks
2. When the Data Selector palette appears on the right select as necessary
3. Click the Select button at the bottom of the Palette
In cell B2 enter the formula =B1.Price

If that doesn't work for you please explain what does happen. Be sure to include macOS & Office Version Numbers in your reply.

Currently when I do this, B1 says “(?)MSFT”

I've never seen that specific message & can't produce it here so I don't know what to suggest. Everything I've tried either works as expected or produces an error different from what you describe. Perhaps another contributor can pick up the reins on this.

Thanks but I have tried this many times. I installed a new version of Excel on a new MacBook Neo, 8 GB, OS Tahoe 26.6.

I'd double-check the Versions. New computers typically come with an OS version which was current at the time they were manufactured. It very well may be out of date by the time it reaches the consumer. There's no telling how long it's been in the pipeline.

Version 26.7.2 is the present release of Tahoe. That may make a difference.

Also, Office should be at 16.114.4 currently.

Another factor which can account for erratic behavior is the availability & consistency of the internet connection.

Yesterday I was able to successfully identify cell B5 as MSFT stock. Entering in C5 =B5.Price resulted in “Formula Error. Enter apostrophe before =. The format of C5 was General, not Text.

For some reason, today I cannot successfully identify B5 as MSFT stock.
