Best Way To Report Bulk, Junk Email Ads?

I have been reporting bulk, junk-spam ads to Microsoft via the Feedback Hub by including screenshots of those junk-spam ad emails.

Also, I click on Report Phishing for those few phishing scams that I receive.

Question?  Is it better to alert Microsoft to bulk, junk-spam ads via the Feedback Hub or by clicking on the Report Junk command for each individual junk-spam email in Outlook or are both methods necessary to convey the extent of this problem?  FYI.

Use Outlook’s Report Junk command for bulk or unsolicited advertising and Report phishing for deceptive messages; you do not also need to submit each email through Feedback Hub.

Report messages in Outlook.com

  1. In the message list, select one or several unwanted messages.
  2. Select Report.
  3. Choose:
    • Report junk for unsolicited bulk advertising or ordinary spam.
    • Report phishing when the message attempts to steal credentials, personal information, or money, or impersonates a trusted organization.

Reporting phishing through Outlook sends the report to Microsoft, removes the message from the Inbox, and helps improve Microsoft’s filters ^1^. Outlook.com also supports selecting multiple messages before choosing Report > Report phishing ^2^.

On Outlook mobile, select the message and use ⋮ > Report Junk, then choose Junk, Phishing, or Block Sender ^3^.

When Feedback Hub is appropriate

Feedback Hub is intended for reporting a Windows product bug or unexpected behavior, suggesting an improvement, or adding information to an existing product-feedback report ^4^. It is not the normal channel for submitting individual junk-email samples.

Use Feedback Hub separately only if reporting a reproducible Windows or Outlook application problem—for example, the Report command is missing, fails, or causes the application to malfunction. For feedback specifically about new Outlook for Windows, use Help > Feedback in Outlook ^5^.

Optional blocking

Reporting and blocking serve different purposes. Reporting a phishing message does not automatically block its sender ^2^. For persistent senders:

  1. Open Settings > Mail > Junk email.
  2. Add the address under Blocked senders, or add a recurring domain under Blocked domains.
  3. Select Save.

Blocking moves matching future messages to Junk rather than preventing the sender from transmitting them ^6^. If senders continually rotate addresses and domains, continue using Report Junk rather than attempting to block every address.
