Hi @Geert Deloof
"Not eligible to renew" means the system found an earlier Azure for Students offer linked to your account, so it's treating this as a renewal rather than a new sign-up. Microsoft's rules are short: the offer gives $100 credit for 12 months, you can renew at the end of the 12 months if you're still a student, and once the credit runs out or the 12 months end, the subscription is cancelled.
Here's what I'd check, in order:
- Look for the old subscription. In the Azure portal, select the settings (gear) icon, open Directories + subscriptions and set the filter to All directories. A subscription you activated earlier with a personal account may sit in a different directory from hogent.onmicrosoft.com.
- Check its status in the Sponsorships portal (microsoftazuresponsorships.com), signed in with the same account. It shows the remaining credit and end date.
- Check the timing. Renewal is tied to the 12-month anniversary, and Microsoft notifies you shortly before it. If the old subscription ran out of credit early, or the anniversary hasn't come yet, the renewal option won't be available.
- Check your student status. Renewal needs your student status to still verify. If the school account was recently changed or isn't recognised, the check can fail.
- To keep working now, you can upgrade the old subscription to pay-as-you-go in the portal. Only do this if you're fine paying for usage, and set a budget alert first.
If none of this matches, the Azure for Students team can look up your eligibility record. Please don't post your full email or subscription ID here.
Did you have an Azure for Students subscription last year, either with this school account or a personal one?
If this explains the message, please consider accepting it as the answer. If nothing shows up in any directory, let me know and I'll be happy to keep helping.
