Charge to 100 % option missing after surface app update in Surface 6 laptop for business

I fly in 2 days, my surface app updated on Oct 28th, and now however many times I reset, repair, terminate it - the option to "charge to 100%" or have any tab on the battery is missing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've restarted- and the option to charge to 100% is missing

I also cannot rollback the update from the store- please can we reinstall the old version of the app, or have a new update that brings that critical option back- without charging to 100% I won't have enough battery for the flight

Ultimately SMART charging is a terrible thing to force people to manage, I will never by choice have a produce with it again- and for now I need a way to turn it off for travel- please provide a solution on this

    Hi Alice Hughes,

I can understand how this frustrating when this happened just before your flight, especially after you already reset, repaired, reinstalled, and restarted the Surface app without getting the Battery & charging section back.

Since your Surface app is already on version 76.10212.108.0, I would not recommend trying to obtain the older app version mentioned in the previous response. Microsoft Store does not normally provide an option to roll the Surface app back, and installing an older package from an unofficial source could create additional security or compatibility issues.

At this point, the missing battery section appears to require further investigation rather than repeating the same app troubleshooting. Because this is a Surface Laptop 6 for Business, please contact your organization’s IT administrator first, as the device or its charging settings may be managed by your organization. If the device is not centrally managed, contact Surface Support and provide the device model, Windows build, Surface app version 76.10212.108.0, and the date when the battery controls disappeared. This will allow the support team to check the device configuration and document the issue with the current Surface app build.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Forum contributors cannot roll back Store apps, change Smart Charging from the back end, or release an application update. I’m sorry there is not a reliable forum-side fix I can offer before your trip, but reporting the exact app version and missing section directly to Surface Support is the safest next step. Thank you so much for your understanding.

in response to the above- I tried updating and restarting- my current version is 76.10212.108.0 - and there is no option to turn off smart charging or alter battery- is there any update available that would allow this

Update the Surface app to version 74.8150.129.0 or later, restart Windows once, and then reopen Surface app → Battery & charging → Smart charging → Charge to 100%; this replacement build is the reported fix for the October 28 disappearance of the battery controls.^1^ ^2^

Install and verify the corrected build

Since repair, reset, reinstall, and ordinary restarts have already failed, do not repeat them.

    1. Open Microsoft Store.
    2. Select Library → Get updates.
    3. Install any available update for Surface.
    4. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Surface → Advanced options and check the displayed version.
    5. Confirm it is 74.8150.129.0 or later.
    6. Restart Windows to complete installation of the new build.
    7. Open Surface → Battery & charging → Smart charging → Charge to 100%.
    8. Keep the Surface connected to power for several hours before traveling. Microsoft specifically recommends selecting the override several hours before it is needed.^3^

Surface Laptop 6 for Business supports Battery Smart Charging and the related charging controls, so the entire Battery & charging section disappearing is not an expected model limitation.^4^

Microsoft Store does not provide a normal user-facing method to select an older Surface app release. Installing the corrected current build is preferable to obtaining an old package from an unofficial source.

    Immediate travel fallback

If Microsoft Store has not yet offered version 74.8150.129.0 and the flight is approaching:

    1. Disconnect the charger and use the Surface until the battery falls below 20%.
    2. Reconnect the original Surface power supply.
    3. Leave it charging.

Surface Smart Charging automatically pauses after the battery has discharged below 20%, allowing it to charge to 100%; it can enable itself again later according to usage patterns.^1^

This is the documented automatic fallback, although deliberately discharging the battery is less convenient than using Charge to 100%.

If the corrected build still has no battery section

    • In Surface → Help & support, check the update status and install any offered Surface driver or firmware updates through Windows Update. If this is an organization-managed Surface Laptop 6 for Business, contact the IT administrator because Surface updates may be deployed internally.^4^
    • If the app is already at or above 74.8150.129.0, Windows and Surface firmware are current, and the section remains absent, report the app version, Windows build, and device model through Surface → Help & support → Get help. The Surface app can detect device issues and route the case for support.^5^

Do not enable or change the UEFI Battery Limit setting as a workaround: that is a separate kiosk-style feature that limits charging to 50%, not a method for forcing a full charge.
