Deleting projects in Clipchamp does not free up storage.

Here's how I usually use Clipchamp. When I finish rendering a project in clipchamp, and the application automatically downloads the video to my device, I usually open the file from the application downloads dialog by clicking "Open file" to preview it. If I'm satisfied, I open the file location, copy the video to my hard drive, and delete the downloaded video (but not the ClipChamp project in-application) from my computer.

My problem seems to be pertinent to the saved projects in Clipchamp itself.

I understand that, these projects being saved on the app (I don't use cloud storage), they naturally take up storage just like a video. I don't always delete them in case I decide to make some last-minute edits a few days later, but I do delete them eventually. The problem is that when I do delete the in-app saved projects, whether they increase storage space seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes, when I delete a in-app saved project, my available storage under the "Storage settings" meter for my computer (not my hard drive, to be clear) goes back up. Other times, it does not. Some days ago I rendered four videos (two once each and a third video twice). I downloaded all 4 of them to copy to my hard drive, deleted the original copies of all 4 of them from my computer, and then deleted the two videos I rendered once each from the "Your videos" menu in Clipchamp itself. My available space went down with the renderings and downloadings (as usual), but did not go back up when I deleted the downloads and in-app saved videos.

Simply put, deleting rendered files does not cause storage to free up again. It's a one-way process the way I'm experiencing things. I've waited several days to see if maybe the system just needed to detect and display the change, but so far that hasn't happened. I've had this problem occasionally in the past, but most of the time, among those instances were ones where my storage did go up again. So what's happening differently for the times my storage isn't freeing up anew?

Just to make sure we're on the same page, would you mind sharing a screenshot of the storage meter you're referring to? I was referring to the cloud storage meter and whether it might be displaying incorrect information due to cached data. Please know that Clipchamp stores temporary files on your computer and that you can set the temp folder size depending on the number of projects you have. That affects the visual meter you see in Windows Settings > System > Storage. For further details, you may check this article:

    Hi,

In addition to what the AI has suggested, the inconsistent results when reclaiming your cloud storage may simply be due to a temporary glitch. Since this is a cloud-based app, updates to your actual storage usage may not appear immediately and can sometimes be delayed until the local cache is cleared.

Can you confirm that you've already deleted the files within the app and check whether they have also been removed from OneDrive on the web? If they are no longer there, try resetting the app to clear its cache. While resetting should not affect your saved projects stored in the cloud, it's still a good idea to back up any important files or unsaved projects beforehand to avoid losing any local data.

    • Sign out your account in Clipchamp
    • From the Start menu, right-click on Clipchamp > App settings
    • Click on Terminate then Reset
    • Sign in again
