Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Try these checks in order:
- Make sure the PC is online. Open a browser and try loading
http://www.microsoft.comorhttp://www.bing.com. If neither opens, fix the Windows network connection first. - Check whether Outlook is offline.
- In classic Outlook, look at the bottom status bar.
- If it shows Disconnected, Working Offline, or Trying to connect..., go to Send/Receive on the ribbon and select Work Offline to switch back online.
- Then try Send/Receive again.
- If the password was changed recently, update it in Outlook.
- In new Outlook, select the email account name.
- When prompted, select Continue and sign in with the new password.
- If prompted to create an app password, get that app password from the email provider and use it in Outlook.
- Check mailbox or cloud storage space.
- If Microsoft cloud storage is full, Outlook cannot send or receive email.
- Check mailbox storage and remove items if needed.
- If email is not automatically sending or receiving when Outlook starts, the Send/Receive group may be damaged.
- In Outlook 2010 and later: File > Options > Advanced > Send/Receive.
- Select the existing group, choose Copy, give the new group a name, and select OK.
- Select the old group and clear Include this group in Send/Receive (F9) for both online and offline.
- Select Close, quit Outlook, and restart it.
- Run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant, which is listed for Outlook when email cannot be sent or received.
- If the issue continues, use the Outlook troubleshooters. For classic Outlook, start with the classic Outlook troubleshooters. If that does not help, contact support.
