Building and customizing solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot APIs and tools
Based on Microsoft's current documentation, the ability to ask Copilot to update selected content within a Copilot Page is still a supported scenario. Microsoft specifically documents a workflow where users highlight content on a Page, select Ask Copilot, provide a prompt, and Copilot revises the content directly on the Page. Since Copilot in your case can clearly read and understand the selected Page content, the issue does not appear to be related to Page access or context retrieval. The problem seems limited to the write/edit action, where Copilot generates the updated content but does not apply it back to the Page.
I am not aware of any announced change indicating that direct Page editing has been removed or intentionally disabled. Microsoft documentation continues to describe Page updates through Copilot as supported behavior. [support.mi...rosoft.com], [support.mi...rosoft.com]
A few things worth checking:
- Test with a newly created Copilot Page to determine whether the issue is page-specific.
- Verify that you have edit permissions on the Page, especially if it is shared.
- Try the same workflow in a different browser or InPrivate/Incognito session.
- Review the Microsoft 365 Admin Center Service Health dashboard for any active Copilot-related advisories.
If the behavior started recently and is reproducible across multiple Pages and browsers, it may be a service regression or rollout-related issue rather than expected functionality. In that case, opening a support ticket with Microsoft and providing screenshots or a screen recording would be the best next step.
At this time, the documented and supported experience remains that Copilot can update existing Page content, not only generate replacement content in chat.
