Update Paint through Microsoft Store first, then repair the app; if the white-circle glyphs remain, reset and reinstall Paint in that order.
1. Update Paint and Windows
The screenshot shows Paint 11.2605.81.0, but Microsoft has not published this white-circle symptom as a known Paint or Windows 11 26H2 issue. The Paint release notes direct users to Feedback Hub for unlisted problems.^1^ ^2^
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library → Get updates.
- Install any Paint or Microsoft Store update, then reopen Paint.
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates, install available updates, and restart Windows.^3^
2. Repair Paint
Repair refreshes the app installation while retaining its data.^4^
- Close Paint.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Paint, select its ⋯ menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Reopen Paint and check whether the labels render normally.^5^
3. Reset Paint if repair does not work
Reset deletes Paint’s app data and preferences, although image files saved elsewhere remain separate.
From the same Paint → Advanced options page:
- Select Reset.
- Confirm Reset.
- Start Paint and test its Settings page again.^4^
4. Reinstall Paint
If resetting does not correct the glyphs:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Open Paint’s ⋯ menu and select Uninstall.
- Open Microsoft Store → Library.
- Find Paint and select Install.^3^
If text is corrupted outside Paint too
If the same circles or damaged text appear in Settings, Notepad, or other applications, treat it as a Windows text-rendering or user-profile problem rather than an isolated Paint installation:
- Create a temporary local Windows account and test Paint there. If Paint works in that account, the problem is likely limited to the original profile.
- If text merely looks blurry rather than being replaced with circles, verify Settings → System → Display → Display resolution is set to Recommended. A font-cache rebuild is another possible system-wide text remedy.^6^
- If several packaged Windows apps malfunction in both accounts, use Settings → System → Recovery and consider the Windows repair-reinstall option. Back up important files first.^7^
If only Paint remains affected after reinstalling, press Win+F and file the report under Apps → Paint, attaching the screenshot and Paint version shown on its About page.^1^
