Duplicate Cameo Appears When Recording a PowerPoint Presentation

I added a Cameo in the top-right corner of my slides using Slide Master. However, when I record the presentation, a second Cameo appears in the bottom-right corner, and both are visible in the recording.

Is there a way to prevent this duplicate Cameo from appearing? I would prefer to continue recording in PowerPoint rather than switch to another application.

    Dear Ricky Paulo,

I understand your concern. After looking into this issue, I've found that you're not alone. Several users have reported seeing a duplicate Cameo appear when recording a PowerPoint presentation, particularly when the Cameo was added through Slide Master.

To help determine whether this is related to the presentation, the user profile, or the PowerPoint installation, could you please let me know:

    • Does the issue occur when you sign in with a different account on the same device?
    • Does the issue occur on a different device using the same presentation?
    • Does the issue occur on PowerPoint for the web?
    • Have any of your colleagues or other users in your organization experienced the same behavior?
    • Does the duplicate Cameo appear in all presentations or only in a specific presentation file?
    • If you create a brand-new presentation with a single slide and a Cameo, does the same issue occur?‌

Based on current PowerPoint behavior, when you start Record Slide Show with the camera enabled, PowerPoint automatically adds its own recording camera layer in the bottom-right corner, even if a Cameo is already placed on the Slide Master. This can result in two camera views being captured in the recording, while the slides themselves remain unchanged.

At the moment, there isn’t a built-in way to keep only the Slide Master Cameo while disabling the recording camera layer.

In this case, first of all, I recommend you try repairing your Microsoft Office installation: Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Select the Microsoft 365 or Office product you want to repair, click the ellipses, and select Modify > choose Online Repair. For reference: Repair an Office application

Moreover, here are some available workarounds you can try:

    • Turn off the camera in the recording window before you start recording, which prevents the additional camera from being added, or
    • Record the presentation without PowerPoint’s recording feature and use a separate screen recording tool if you need full control over the camera layout.
    • If the duplicate camera has already been recorded, use Record > Reset to Cameo > Current Slide or Record > Reset to Cameo > All Slides (following the AI Answer's suggestion)

Note: Please understand that, as this is a public forum community, no one here has access to your environment or the ability to reproduce the issue directly

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or are stuck on any steps, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to your update

Yes. Record with only the Slide Master cameo on the slide, and avoid adding a second recording cameo.

    Use this approach:

    1. In View > Slide Master, keep the cameo placeholder only where it is needed.
    2. Return to View > Normal View and confirm the slide uses that layout.
    3. Start recording from the Record tab or Slide Show > Record.
    4. If an extra camera feed appears during recording, do not add another cameo from Edit > Cameo or Record > Cameo.
    5. If the recording already contains the wrong camera recording, use Record > Reset to Cameo and choose Reset to Cameo on Current Slide or Reset to Cameo on All Slides. This deletes the recording but keeps the camera style.
    6. If needed, turn the camera off in the recording controls and leave the microphone on for slides where only audio is needed.

Supported behavior from the product guidance:

    • A cameo added in Slide Master appears on all slides that use that layout.
    • PowerPoint recording also has a separate Cameo command in the recording workflow.
    • Reset to Cameo removes the recorded narration/video and restores the cameo feed, which is useful if a duplicate camera recording was created.

If the goal is one camera frame only, the practical fix is to use the Slide Master cameo as the single camera object and not insert a second cameo from the recording experience.
