Azure Test Plans does not provide a setting that permanently replaces @ParameterName with its value in the authored test steps; substitution occurs when the parameterized test is run.
In the test-case editor, the supported design is:
- Enter a named placeholder in an Action or Expected Result, for example:
Add @Quantity items to the cart - Enter one or more values in the Parameter values table below the steps.
- Run the test from the test suite. The Test Runner displays the values for the current parameter row.
- Move to the next iteration to run the same steps with the next row of values. ^1^
The test-case definition therefore continues to show @Quantity; there is no documented display option to render a selected row’s value inline while editing it.
Alternatives
- Keep parameterization: Use descriptive parameter names and let the Test Runner supply each iteration’s value. This retains one test case for multiple data combinations.
- Show literal values in the authored steps: Replace the placeholder manually with a fixed value, but that step will no longer use the parameter table for that value.
- Require individually readable cases: Create separate test cases with literal values. This increases maintenance but makes each test case self-contained.
- Request inline preview support: Submit a feature request through the Azure DevOps Developer Community if displaying the selected iteration’s values directly in authored steps is required.
