Use any in-app migration link to access the existing chats, then export the affected account’s Copilot activity and open a Microsoft consumer-support case if the chats remain unavailable.
Microsoft documents that personal-account chats should move automatically to the updated Copilot app, but content can be temporarily missing while that move completes. This makes the update a plausible explanation, but it does not confirm whether these five chats were migrated, deleted, or remain recoverable. ^1^
1. Complete the migration-specific checks
These checks apply to the updated personal Copilot experience:
- Confirm the exact account and original sign-in method:
- If originally signed in using Continue with Google or Continue with Apple, use that same button rather than manually entering the address.
- Personal and work/school accounts remain separate.
- Quit and reopen the Copilot app; refresh the web version.
- Look for an in-app message saying that chats are moving or “coming soon.” If it contains a link to existing or previous chats, open that link and immediately copy important content elsewhere.
- Allow time for the account move to finish and check again. Microsoft states that timing varies with the amount and type of content being moved. ^1^
If multiple personal accounts are involved, or this account may not have completed migration:
- Open a new InPrivate/private browser session.
- Visit
copilot.microsoft.com.
- Sign in with the affected personal account.
- If it remains on the prior experience instead of redirecting to
copilot.com, check the history there and preserve any accessible conversations. If redirected, the account has moved or is completing its move. ^1^
Do not select any option to delete or clear Copilot activity while this is being investigated.
2. Check whether activity records still exist
Export the account’s activity before contacting support:
- Sign in to the Microsoft privacy dashboard using the affected personal account.
- Go to Privacy → Empower your productivity → Copilot → Your Copilot app activity history → Copilot apps.
- Select Export all activity history.
- Open the downloaded CSV and search for distinctive prompts, phrases, or dates from the missing conversations. ^2^
Finding the missing prompts or responses in the export confirms that activity records exist in the account data. It does not necessarily prove that complete conversation objects, pin metadata, or restorable chat identifiers still exist.
Copilot normally retains the last 18 months of signed-in conversation history, so conversations from within that period would ordinarily be expected to appear unless they were deleted or affected by another documented exception. ^3^
3. Report and escalate the suspected migration or synchronization failure
First submit a diagnostic report from Copilot:
- Select … in the upper-right corner.
- Select Send feedback → Report a problem.
- Include:
- Approximate onset: October 26, 2026
- Personal Microsoft account
- Approximately five previously pinned conversations
- Initially listed but unable to open; now absent from history and search
- New pin operations do not persist
- Reproduced in both the Windows app and web version
- Whether the activity export contains the missing prompts
- Screenshots, but no password or other sensitive information
Then open Get Help in Windows and request account-side investigation:
- Search for Get Help from Start.
- Describe the issue as:
“Personal Microsoft Copilot chats missing after updated-app migration; chats fail to open and pin state does not persist.”
- If self-help does not resolve it, select Contact Support.
- Select the affected product/service, confirm the routing options, and choose an available chat or callback method. Contact methods depend on scenario, subscription, and operating hours. ^4^
Ask support to:
- Investigate whether the conversation activity or chat records remain associated with the account.
- Check whether the account’s updated-Copilot migration is complete or stalled.
- Confirm whether pin failures and inaccessible chat identifiers are known synchronization symptoms.
- Determine whether any supported recovery or reattachment option is available.
A Microsoft Q&A forum cannot inspect private account data or restore conversations. Microsoft Support can accept the account-specific investigation request, but restoration is not guaranteed and public documentation does not establish that individual chat objects or pin metadata can be recovered. ^5^
