Unable to access Microsoft Viva Engage Network – “Your account has been locked”

Hi Community,

I’m looking for assistance with accessing the Microsoft Viva Engage network, specifically the Microsoft communities I use for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations feedback and discussions.

When I try to access a community/thread hosted under the microsoft.com Viva Engage network, I receive the following error:

Your account has been locked. Contact your support person to unlock it, then try again.

For example, I am trying to access this thread: <Moderator's note: Personal Identifiable Information removed>

A few important points:

  • My account works correctly when signing into Viva Engage for other tenants/networks.
  • The issue appears to occur specifically when accessing the Microsoft-hosted microsoft.com network.
  • My organisation's IT team has checked from their side, but they are unable to identify or unlock anything that would explain this particular issue.
  • I tried contacting Microsoft support by phone, but the automated/AI support directed me to aka.ms/prosupport.
  • Unfortunately, I don't have access to that support channel, and neither does my IT team.

Could someone please advise which Microsoft support team owns access/account issues for the microsoft.com Viva Engage network, or provide the appropriate support contact/channel for getting the account unlocked?

If there is a support phone number or another escalation path specifically for the Microsoft Viva Engage network/community access, that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

The appropriate escalation is a Microsoft 365 support case requesting investigation by the Viva Engage service team for the microsoft.com network; your organization’s administrator cannot directly unlock an account held in another organization’s Engage network.

Viva Engage networks maintain separate users and access states, so successful access to your home network does not establish that your user is active in the Microsoft-hosted network. External-network access is also controlled by the organization that owns that network.^1^

    Open the support request

Ask a Microsoft 365 administrator in your organization to:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    2. Select Help & support at the bottom right.
    3. Enter:
Viva Engage account locked only in the microsoft.com network
    4. If the suggested articles do not resolve it, select Contact Support (the headset icon).
    5. Choose phone or email, submit the request, and ask that it be routed to the Viva Engage service team responsible for the Microsoft-owned microsoft.com network.

Microsoft documents this as the standard route for opening a business support request.^2^

Include the following in the case:

    • The affected sign-in address, supplied privately in the case—not in a public forum.
    • The exact message: “Your account has been locked. Contact your support person to unlock it, then try again.”
    • The affected network: microsoft.com.
    • The thread URL and a screenshot showing the error.
    • Confirmation that the same account can access other Viva Engage networks.
    • Confirmation that your Entra/Microsoft 365 account is active and that your organization’s IT team found no tenant-side lock.
    • A request to check whether the guest/external user record is suspended, deactivated, deleted, or otherwise blocked in the Microsoft-owned Engage network.

Viva Engage exports expose network-specific user states such as active, suspended, and deleted, but those records are available to administrators of the network concerned.^3^

If your administrator cannot open a case

Access to Microsoft 365 business support does not require ProSupport in every case, but the administrator must have an eligible subscription purchased through Microsoft. If all subscriptions were purchased through a partner, Microsoft directs the organization to obtain support through that partner.^2^

    Therefore:

    • Direct Microsoft subscription: another Global Administrator or support-capable administrator should use Help & support in the admin center.
    • Partner/CSP subscription: ask the licensing partner to open and escalate the case.
    • No eligible Microsoft 365 support entitlement: use the official Dynamics contact page and request routing for a D365 community-access issue.^4^

Microsoft publishes current regional phone routes through its support documentation rather than a separate public Viva Engage unlock number.^2^

    What not to use

The Microsoft account recovery, Outlook unlock, and account-reinstatement forms apply when the underlying personal Microsoft account itself is locked. Because your account signs in successfully and works in other Viva Engage networks, those forms do not match the network-specific symptom.

Community moderators also cannot perform a network-level account unlock. Community administrators have permissions within their communities, such as managing members and conversations; their role is not equivalent to a network or service administrator.^5^

    Hi @Devinder Singh

Since the affected community is hosted in Microsoft's microsoft.com Viva Engage network, your organization's IT administrators may not have the permissions needed to manage your access to that network.

From my findings, other users have experienced similar access issues with the Finance and Operations Viva Engage community. I suggest submitting the Request access to Finance and Operations Viva Engage Community form to request access again. Since multiple users appear to be affected, this may be a community-level access issue rather than a problem with your organization's account settings.

Reference: Access to Microsoft Viva Engage Community.

If submitting the form doesn't resolve the issue, I suggest starting a new thread in the Dynamics 365 Community to seek further guidance from the community.
