excel spreadsheet not saving work

This can happen when Excel is not recognizing the installed license correctly, or when files are being opened from OneDrive without a local copy available.

1. Refresh the Office license on the Mac

4. Try Excel’s immediate save workarounds so work is not lost
   • Use File > Save As and save with a new file name.
   • Try saving the workbook to another location, such as the local hard disk.
   • Create a new workbook and save it to the original location. If the new workbook also cannot save there, the issue may be with that location rather than the file.
5. Check for common save blockers
   • Make sure the destination has enough free disk space.
   • If saving to a network or external drive, try saving locally instead.
   • If antivirus software is running, temporarily deactivate it and test saving.
   • If the file path is very long, shorten the file name or folder path.
6. If Save is still greyed out
   • Update Office from File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
