Issue with using spreadsheets in Neota

Hi,

I am currently building an application within Neota. The application takes info from the user, which is then inputted into the spreadsheet to run calculations. The output from those calculations is then to be displayed within the application. Currently, the calculations do not run until the spreadsheet is opened and editing is enabled; meaning the outputs within the application either stay blank or are just zero. I have had this issue before, and fixed it; but I cant remember how.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

James

    Hi James,

Based on your description, it sounds like the spreadsheet formulas are not being recalculated automatically. If the outputs only update after someone opens the workbook and enables editing, the workbook may be opening in a state where calculations are not triggered until Excel fully loads and recalculates it.

Here are a few things to check:

    1/ Excel calculation mode

    • Open the workbook directly in Excel.
    • Go to Formulas > Calculation Options.
    • Make sure it is set to Automatic rather than Manual. When a workbook is saved in Manual calculation mode, formulas may not recalculate until a user opens the file and triggers a calculation.

2/ Protected View / Enable Editing

If the workbook is downloaded from an external source or stored in a location that causes Excel to open it in Protected View, calculations and some workbook features may not run until Enable Editing is selected.

3/ External connections or linked data

If the calculations depend on external data connections, linked workbooks, Power Query refreshes, or macros, verify that those are being refreshed when the application accesses the file.

    4/ Force recalculation

If you recently made changes to formulas, try opening the workbook, forcing a full recalculation (Ctrl+Alt+F9), then save and close it before testing again.

Since you mentioned you've encountered and fixed this before, my first suspicion would be that the workbook has been saved in Manual Calculation mode again, as this may be a common cause of formulas remaining blank or showing stale values until the workbook is opened in Excel.

If the workbook calculates correctly in Excel but not when run through the application, I'd recommend reaching out to the application's support team, as the issue may be related to how the application is executing or reading the workbook rather than the workbook itself.

    I hope this helps.
