Scheduling and managing events using Outlook.com calendar
Outlook.com should show RSVP, Accept, or Decline for a recognized meeting request; if none appears, first check whether Outlook treated the message as an actual invitation rather than ordinary email. ^1^
Check the invitation in Outlook.com
- Open Calendar in Outlook.com.
- Search for the meeting by its title and date.
- If it appears, open the calendar event and look for RSVP, Accept, Tentative, or Decline.
- In Mail, return to the message list and select the invitation once. A valid meeting request normally offers RSVP directly in the message list; selecting it displays Accept and Decline, with additional choices under More options. ^1^
If it is absent from Calendar
The message likely was not processed as a meeting request. Ask the organizer to create and send a new invitation directly from their calendar, rather than forwarding or copying the original message. Then check whether the new invitation shows RSVP controls.
Also determine the scope:
- Only invitations from one organizer fail: the organizer or their sending system should inspect how it generates the invitation.
- All invitations fail: test with another browser or a private browsing window. If the problem remains, use Outlook.com’s Help menu, enter the issue, and select Still need help? → Yes when offered. Microsoft documents this as the Outlook.com support route. ^2^
If possible, include whether the event appears in Calendar, whether every sender is affected, and whether the account is personal Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 when contacting support; these details distinguish a display problem from an unrecognized invitation. ^3^
