Tap the keyboard toggle to open the numeric keyboard, then touch and hold at the desired position in the cell and select New Line.^1^

    1. Tap the cell and enter edit mode.
    2. Position the cursor where the new line should begin.
    3. Tap the keyboard toggle to display the numeric keyboard.
    4. Touch and hold at the cursor position.
    5. Select New Line from the contextual menu.

If the second line is not fully visible, enable Home → Wrap Text and increase the row height if necessary.^2^

    Press ALT+Enter

You - and I - call it a 'carriage return' because that's what we called it when we used a typewriter. The modern term is 'new paragraph'. So you would ask "how do I create a new paragraph inside a cell" ((;-)

When you are typing in the cell in Excel on an iPad, when you reach the spot where you want a new line of text in the cell, tap and hold that spot and you should see the New Line option on the popup menu.
