If the sign-in email and password were changed after sharing a verification code, the supported recovery path is the Microsoft account recovery process.
- Start with the Sign-in Helper tool. It checks the account details entered and tells what recovery action is available.
- If the original username is no longer recognized, try the Recover your account flow and enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name previously used to sign in.
- If a phone number or alternate sign-in method is still on the account, select where to receive the security code, enter the code, and set a new password.
- If the account now shows security info that is not recognized, first verify that the email domain and spelling are correct. Microsoft notes that Outlook, Hotmail, and Live accounts can use different country domains such as
.comand.co.uk. - If none of the listed phone numbers or email addresses are accessible, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to replace the security info.
- If all security info was replaced, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is restored after the replacement process completes.
- If verification codes are not arriving, avoid repeated requests. Microsoft may temporarily block code delivery because of unusual activity. VOIP numbers also cannot be used for verification codes.
- Microsoft support agents cannot send verification codes, password reset links, or directly change account details.
For Minecraft specifically, the account access issue is still handled through Microsoft account recovery. If recovery is unsuccessful after the official process, the context does not provide another supported recovery path.
