After migrating to Blazor v5 interactive server page freezes after intercating with any field

Website using Blazor version 4 worked fine. This week migrated to Blazor version 5. Works fine on desktop browser. But IOS does not.

on Ipad navigation works fine but as soon as a finger touches a form field, the page freezes.

tried all the suggestions and recommendation found on the web. Nthing fixes the problem.

this is a serious problem. If we dont find a fix soon, we will be forced to roll back to Blazor 4.

I am not aware of separate "Blazor version 4" and "Blazor version 5" releases described here. Could you clarify exactly what versions or packages you upgraded from and to? Blazor versioning generally follows the corresponding .NET version, so it is unclear what specific migration you are referring to.

Other than that, please provide more information, such as:

the relevant form field code where the freeze occurs
the iPadOS and browser versions
browser console errors or server-side exceptions recorded when the freeze occurs.

The current description alone does not provide enough information to troubleshoot the issue.

Blazor 5.0.1 is the latest. That is what the website is using.

We found the conflict. The FluentToolTip component was causing the page freeze. From what I read, it goes into an endless loop. It is a bug in the new version. So for now we commented out all the FluentToolTip lines until a fix appears.

We tried it with and without the delay. Same problem. The page freezes.

Plus we found that the FluentTabs component also has issues. Plus we found that the Hamburger menu also has issues.

Bummer. With all the time and resources in the world to get Blazor 5 tested properly, here it is. Laaaaate and Bugggggy. I guess it will be weeks before we see bug fixes. I guess all their focus is on maximizing sales and licensing $$$???

Although the upstream package (Fluent UI) seems to have issues that still need to be fixed, I'm glad you managed to find a workaround for now. Please do let me know if you need any further help.

One small clarification: "Blazor" by itself generally refers to the Blazor web framework, and I am not aware of widespread usage where "Blazor 5" means Fluent UI Blazor 5.0.1. You may want to specify that you mean Fluent UI Blazor when referring to it, as otherwise people may get confused.

Thank you again for sharing the results of your investigation. I understand how you would feel to encounter this kind of issue after an upgrade, especially when the application was working as expected before.

From the testing you described, the immediate page-freezing issue was isolated to FluentTooltip. When FluentTooltip is present, interacting with the form field causes the page to freeze on iOS. You also tested the component both with and without the Delay setting and observed the same behavior, which indicates that changing the delay does not avoid the problem. After commenting out the FluentTooltip components, the page no longer freezes, so removing those components is the workaround that has resolved the immediate issue in your application.

Since this workaround is working for you, I would continue with it for now while the underlying FluentTooltip behavior is investigated. This allows you to keep the application usable without having to roll back the entire Fluent UI Blazor upgrade solely because of the tooltip issue.

If the specific FluentTooltip/iOS behavior has not already been reported, you may also consider reporting it through the Fluent UI Blazor GitHub issue tracker. Including the affected iOS and browser versions, Fluent UI Blazor 5.0.1, a minimal reproduction if available, and the observation that removing FluentTooltip prevents the freeze should give the maintainers useful information for investigating the behavior.
