Managing media playback issues and settings in Microsoft Edge on Android devices
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Read aloud feature to read any web page is not working on MS Edge for Android.
It fails with the message "Poor internet connection" although no issue with my internet speed.
Checked with different network, different android device and I see the same issue.
Attached the screen shot of error message.
Is it a known issue? Please let me know if you need anymore info on the issue.
Thanks.
Managing media playback issues and settings in Microsoft Edge on Android devices
Now, Read Aloud is working with MS Edge Android with the latest version.
Version: Edge 155.0.4283.61
Thanks.
From what you describe, this probably isn’t your connection. You’ve tried a different network and a different device and got the same error, which points to something on Microsoft’s side or something tied to your account or region. My search didn’t turn up anything useful on this specific error, so what follows is general troubleshooting, not a confirmed fix.
Edge’s Read aloud uses online voices that are fetched from a Microsoft speech service. The “poor internet connection” message likely appears whenever the app can’t reach that service or the voice download fails, even if your internet is fine. That would explain why it fails on every network.
Things to try, roughly in order:
Update Edge from the Play Store. If you’re on Edge Beta or Canary, try the stable build instead (or the other way round).
Change the voice or language. Open Read aloud, tap the settings or voice option, and pick a different voice. If the page language is detected wrongly, switch to English (India) or US. Some voices fail to download while others work.
Clear Edge’s cache, not just the browsing data: Android Settings → Apps → Edge → Storage → Clear cache. If that doesn’t help, try Clear data (you’ll need to sign in again).
Check Android’s own speech engine. Update “Speech Services by Google” in the Play Store, and under Settings → System → Languages → Text-to-speech output, confirm a working engine is selected.
Test with a VPN. If Read aloud works through a VPN, the speech service is probably blocked or failing in your region or on your ISP, and only Microsoft can fix that.
Check whether it works in a different browser’s reader mode, to confirm Android text-to-speech itself is fine.
If none of that helps, report it to Microsoft through Edge → Settings → Help and feedback → Send feedback, and attach the same screenshot.
