What is shown is expected behavior in Windows 11.

    The background layout options are:

    • Fill
    • Fit
    • Stretch
    • Tile
    • Center
    • Span

For a 1920×1080 image, Windows can still crop part of the picture if the laptop display uses a different aspect ratio or if the desktop area does not match the image shape exactly. Microsoft notes that on devices with different aspect ratios, the image height can scale correctly while the width is cropped, and the image remains centered.

That matches the missing lower-right area being hidden behind the taskbar or cropped at the edge. The thumbnail preview in Settings does not guarantee the desktop will show every edge of the image exactly the same way.

    Useful checks:

    1. Open Settings > Personalization > Background.
    2. Try Fit first if the goal is to keep the whole image visible.
    3. Try Stretch if the goal is to fill the screen, but this can distort the image.
    4. If part of the image is still cut off, check Settings > System > Display.
    5. Under Scale and layout, verify the display uses the recommended resolution.

If the display is not using its recommended resolution, wallpapers can appear less sharp, stretched, centered, or edged differently.

If the goal is to avoid any important part being cut off, use an image designed for the display’s aspect ratio. Microsoft recommends designing images in 16:9 and keeping important content within a safer central area because different screens can crop edges.

So, the behavior is not a removed feature in Windows 11 25H2. The background mode still exists, but the final result depends on the display resolution, scaling, and aspect ratio.

    Hello Βασίλης Νικολόπουλος,

From your image, the Fit option is working, but Windows fits the picture to the entire display, including the area behind the taskbar. The taskbar is drawn over the wallpaper, so the lower-right portion is covered rather than cropped.

Windows does not provide a fit mode that automatically reserves space above the taskbar. To keep that part visible, edit the image first by moving the picture upward or adding a blank bottom margin, then set the edited copy as the background.

Microsoft explains the background options here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/experience/personalization/change-the-desktop-background-in-windows
