A specific functionality or enhancement provided by Windows Copilot
Mico has been removed from Copilot Voice and moved to Learn Live; Microsoft provides no documented switch to retain the previous Copilot Voice experience after an account updates.^1^
What Microsoft has confirmed
- Why Mico was moved: Microsoft says Mico was used to learn how people respond to warmth and expressiveness in AI. It decided that the character had more room to develop in Learn Live as a real-time tutor.
- Timing and notice: Removal began in August 2026 and is rolling out in waves, so there is no single changeover date. The documentation does not explain whether every affected user receives advance in-product notice.
- No Mico rollback: Once an account receives the update, Mico no longer appears in Copilot Voice. Microsoft has not announced its return there.
- Mico still exists in Learn Live: It is being retained as a tutoring character rather than as the general Copilot Voice character.
- Voice continues: Only the animated Mico experience is being removed; spoken Copilot conversations remain available.^1^
Your previous work and settings
Microsoft says existing voice conversations are saved in Copilot chat history and migrate with the account. Mico-specific customization—such as saved colors and appearances—does not migrate.^1^
Therefore:
- If the “work” means conversation content, check Copilot → Chat history; it should not require recreation.
- If conversations are missing after migration, report that specifically as a history-migration problem, rather than as feedback only about Mico’s removal.
- If the work consists of Mico’s appearance or personality settings, Microsoft says those settings will not carry forward.
Female voice and conversational behavior
Microsoft’s current documentation explains how to start, mute, and end Copilot Voice, but it does not document a voice picker, a supported method to restore the former voices, or a named replacement personality for Mico.^2^
Copilot Voice is supposed to let you interrupt by speaking; Copilot should stop its response, listen, and answer the new input.^3^ If it instead continues talking over you, include that as a reproducible malfunction in the feedback:
- Open Copilot and select your profile picture.
- Select Send feedback.
- State the platform and Copilot app version.
- Report separately:
- only one/female-presenting voice is offered;
- speaking during a response does not stop it;
- the new personality adds unwanted relational commentary;
- previous chat history is missing, if applicable;
- you want a legacy-personality or concise-response option.
The Microsoft Q&A guidance identifies in-product Send feedback as the route to the Copilot product team; Q&A contributors cannot restore retired features or change account rollout state.^4^
