Windows 11 cannot automatically rotate several complete themes as a screen saver; select the Photos screen saver for rotating pictures, or configure a Lock screen slideshow if you want to combine images from multiple folders.
Rotate pictures with the Photos screen saver
- Open Start > Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
- Under Related settings, select Screen saver.
- In Screen Saver Settings, select Photos from the drop-down list.
- Select Settings… and choose the pictures available through that screen saver's options.
- Set Wait to the desired number of idle minutes.
- Optionally select On resume, display logon screen.
- Select Preview, then Apply > OK.
Windows permits one screen saver to be selected from the drop-down; the individual screen saver may provide additional options through Settings….^1^
If you need images from several folders
The documented multi-folder option is the lock screen slideshow:
- Open Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
- Under Personalize your lock screen, choose Slideshow.
- Add each folder containing the pictures you want included.
- Adjust the available slideshow settings.
Windows 11 supports adding multiple folders to a lock-screen slideshow.^2^
Themes versus screen savers
A Windows theme combines desktop backgrounds, colors, sounds, and mouse-pointer settings. Windows applies one theme at a time through Settings > Personalization > Themes; Microsoft does not document automatic rotation among complete themes.^3^
If by “themes” you mean groups of pictures, place the desired pictures together and use Photos as the screen saver. If you mean complete Windows themes—including their colors and sounds—automatic theme rotation requires a third-party customization tool.
