Welcome nicole varrone,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A. I'm sorry you're locked out of your laptop. Let's get you back in. To point you in the right direction, could you please tell me:
- Which account do you sign in with: a personal Microsoft account (an email address such as outlook.com, hotmail.com or live.com), a local account (username only), or a work/school account?
- Which version of Windows is on the laptop (Windows 11 or Windows 10)?
- When you select the "Network" icon at the bottom-right of the sign-in screen, do you see any Wi-Fi networks listed? If not, what exactly do you see?
In the meantime, please try the steps below:
- Step 1: Try your account password instead of the PIN On the sign-in screen, select "Sign-in options" below the PIN box, then select the password (key) icon and enter your account password. If you sign in successfully, go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Sign-in options" > "PIN (Windows Hello)" and select "I forgot my PIN" to create a new one.
- Step 2: Connect to the internet from the sign-in screen Select the "Network" icon at the bottom-right corner of the sign-in screen and choose your Wi-Fi network. If no networks appear, check that "Airplane mode" is off and that the Wi-Fi key on your keyboard (often Fn + a function key) is not turned off. Alternatively, connect an Ethernet cable from the laptop to your router, or try a different network, such as your phone's hotspot.
- Step 3: Reset the PIN from the sign-in screen Once the laptop is online, select "Sign-in options", select the PIN icon, and select "I forgot my PIN". Choose your account if asked, then follow the prompts to verify your identity and set a new PIN. This option is only available for Microsoft accounts.
- Step 4: If you also don't remember your password (Microsoft account) On another phone or computer, go to the Microsoft account password reset page: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx. After resetting your password, connect the laptop to the internet, sign in with the new password, and then repeat Step 1 to create a new PIN.
Looking forward to your update.
