If the account is showing the wrong age, first correct the birth date on the Microsoft account. Microsoft’s Family Safety troubleshooting states that when an adult is treated as a child, the birth date must be changed using the Microsoft account birth date process for adults who are incorrectly identified as children.
Then check whether the account is in a Microsoft family group:
- Sign in to
https://account.microsoft.com/family. - If no family members appear, the account is not in a family group.
- If a family is listed, the account was previously added to one.
If the account is not part of a family group but Family Safety is still being enforced on the PC, run the Family Safety refresh task on that computer:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
cmdand select OK. - Run:
schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask" - Restart the computer.
This must be done on each affected device.
If the account is part of a family group:
- If the account has an Organizer role, the same refresh task above can be used, then restart the PC.
- If the account has a Member role, only the family organizer can turn off the safety settings for that account.
- If removal from the family group is needed, sign in at
https://account.microsoft.com/family/, select the menu next to the name, and choose Leave family group. If that option is not available, only an organizer can remove the account.
Important: leaving or being removed from a family group can remove access to shared products and services such as Microsoft 365 Family.
