Additional Microsoft Entra services and features related to identity, access, and network security
Hi,
Just wanted to clarify a few things to better understand your situation.
- Was the laptop originally Microsoft Entra joined or Entra registered? Did you remove the device only from the Entra admin center, or did you also disconnect it from Windows?
- Before removing the device, were you signing in using a password or Windows Hello PIN?
- Have you tried signing in with the previous password(the one used before you reset it)? Windows may still have the old credentials cached locally.
- When you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete at the sign-in screen, do you see the Switch user option? Also, have you checked whether Sign-in options allows you to select password authentication?
- Was there a local administrator account configured on the laptop before it was joined to Entra ID? If the device was managed through Intune, was Windows LAPS configured?
A couple of things you could try:
- Disconnect the laptop from the internet and try signing in using the previously cached password.
2.Check whether you can switch to another account from the Windows sign-in screen.
3.If a local administrator account exists, try accessing it using the local account credentials.
One important point, Deleting a device from Microsoft Entra ID does not automatically remove the Entra join from Windows. Previously signed-in users may still be able to access Windows using cached credentials.
If you can regain access using the existing account or a local administrator, you can properly disconnect the device from Entra ID before joining it to your on-premises AD domain.
Please share the answers to the above questions, particularly the original device join type and sign-in method. That should help me to identify the safest recovery approach without resetting the laptop or losing the existing user profile.
