Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I am writing to request your assistance regarding my purchased Microsoft Office 2021 lifetime license, which I can no longer use as of October 23, 2026.

I purchased Microsoft Office 2021 with the understanding that it was a one-time purchase with a perpetual license, rather than a subscription-based product. However, when I open Microsoft Office applications, I receive the message: “No longer supported with this version of the application.” As a result, I am unable to use the software that I previously purchased.

I would like to clarify that I do not wish to subscribe to Microsoft 365, as I have already paid for a lifetime license of Microsoft Office 2021. I believe I should be able to continue using the licensed version of the software in accordance with the terms of my purchase.

In this regard, I respectfully request your assistance with the following:

Clarification of the issue: Please explain why my Microsoft Office 2021 license is no longer working and what the error message means.

Restoration of access: Kindly provide the necessary steps to reactivate, reinstall, or restore my Microsoft Office 2021 license so that I can use the software again.

License verification: Please verify the validity and activation status of my lifetime license and confirm whether it remains eligible for use.

Non-subscription solution: Please provide a solution that will allow me to continue using my purchased Microsoft Office 2021 without requiring me to subscribe to Microsoft 365.

I value Microsoft's products and services, and I hope this matter can be resolved promptly. I would appreciate clear instructions on how to restore access to my purchased software, as I do not wish to pay for another subscription when I have already purchased a perpetual license.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response and a satisfactory resolution.

Use the steps provided on this link to remove the Office licence from your Mac:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-activation-licensing/how-to-remove-office-license-files-on-a-mac

Uninstall the Office apps using the steps provided on this link:

    3

Then go to this link and scroll down to find all the installers for all Office versions and download the installer released on October 6th (Version 2609), then use that to install Office, that should work correctly.

Office 2021 is a one-time purchase, but support for Office 2021 ended on October 13, 2026. After that date, Microsoft no longer provides technical support, bug fixes, or security updates for Office 2021. The apps may continue to function, but using them can expose the device to security risks.

The message “No longer supported with this version of the application” matches the documented behavior when Office apps are no longer supported on the current operating system or device. In that state, Office can enter reduced functionality mode, where files can be opened and printed but not edited, saved, or created.

    Supported facts for the situation:

    1. The license itself is perpetual. Office 2021 is a one-time purchase product.
    2. End of support does not convert it into Microsoft 365. It remains a perpetual product, but it is no longer supported after October 13, 2026.
    3. If the apps are in reduced functionality mode, updating the OS first and then updating Office may resolve it on affected macOS devices.
    4. If the installed copy is showing Microsoft 365 behavior instead of Office 2021 behavior, the installed build or signed-in account may be wrong.

Practical steps to restore access without subscribing to Microsoft 365:

    1. Confirm the installed product name on the Mac
      • Open a Microsoft app such as Word.
      • Select Word > About Word.
      • Check whether it shows Microsoft 365 or Office 2021.
      • Expected result: if the purchase is the perpetual version, it should show Office 2021.
    2. Check whether the Office 2021 purchase is attached to the Microsoft account
      • Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page.
      • Verify that the purchased product appears there.
      • Expected result: the Office 2021 license should be listed for that account.
    3. If the wrong account is signed in, sign out and sign back in with the account used to redeem Office 2021
      • In an Office app, go to File > Account where available and review the signed-in account.
      • If a different work, school, or Microsoft 365 account is being used, sign out and sign in with the account that owns the one-time purchase.
    4. If the installed copy is the Microsoft 365/App Store build, reinstall the perpetual version from the Microsoft account
      • Uninstall the current Office apps.
      • Reinstall only from the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page tied to the Office 2021 purchase.
      • This is the documented path used to restore the correct non-subscription version when the wrong build is installed.
    5. If macOS is affected by reduced functionality because the OS or app version is no longer supported, update macOS first, then update Office
      • Microsoft documents this as the resolution path for supported devices affected by reduced functionality mode.

    Important limitation:

    • Office 2021 can still be a valid perpetual license, but after end of support there is no supported path to keep it fully supported indefinitely on unsupported OS/device combinations.
    • If the issue is strictly caused by end of support, Microsoft’s recommendation is to upgrade Office.
