Inquiry About GET_STATUS Requests and Timeout During Windows USB Enumeration
Dear Microsoft Support Team,
We are developing a firmware download tool that communicates with our target device using WinUSB.
During USB device enumeration, we observed a standard USB GET_STATUS request in a USB protocol analyzer capture before our application starts.
We also observed that approximately 5 seconds elapse between the GET_STATUS request and the subsequent request.
Currently, our target-side implementation does not support handling this GET_STATUS request, and modifying the target-side code is not possible in our current situation.
We would appreciate your clarification on the following questions:
- We did not observe this request when connecting common USB devices, such as Mass Storage devices, USB keyboards, and mice. However, we observed this request during USB enumeration when using our tool, which communicates with the target device through WinUSB. Could you explain why this
GET_STATUSrequest occurs with WinUSB and whether there is a way to configure Windows or WinUSB to prevent this request from being sent? - When the device does not respond to this request, does the Windows USB stack apply a timeout of approximately 5 seconds?
If so, can this timeout value be configured or modified? If possible, could you please provide instructions on how to change it?
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
