UPDATE – October 30, 2026: SOLVED!
I wanted to report back that my Office Home & Business 2021 activation problem has been resolved!
After experiencing the activation failure with Office version 16.114.1 (26102031), I updated to:
Version 16.114.3 (26102720)
I then opened Word, selected "Activate Microsoft 365," and signed in using the Microsoft account associated with my original Costco purchase of Office Home & Business 2021 (December 14, 2021).
Bingo! My existing Office 2021 license was recognized and activation was restored.
I have since confirmed that all my Office applications are working:
Word – activated; editing and saving work.
Excel – activated; editing and saving work.
Legacy Outlook – working normally, including all my local "On My Computer" folders.
I did NOT have to:
Purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Uninstall or reinstall Office.
Roll back to an earlier version.
Run the Office License Removal Tool again.
Remove or disable Microsoft AutoUpdate.
My recommendation to anyone experiencing this problem is to check for version 16.114.3 (26102720) and try signing in with the Microsoft account associated with their original perpetual Office 2021 purchase.
I cannot say whether this resolves the problem for everyone, but it worked for me.
Hopefully this helps other Office 2021 owners!
