TEAMS audio/video output has been working fine for years. A month or so ago, audio output suddenly stopped working although video continued OK and microphone input continued to work ok. Audio works fine on all other applications. I spent 6 hours yesterday using Google AI assistance trying to troubleshoot the issue at a detailed level with no luck. The AI's conclusion was that there is something misdirecting or conflicting or disallowing the audio output. I am forced to login to Microsoft account through GoDaddy which has been my email provider for 20 years before acquired by Microsoft. That login process has two options with the same password. One option is titled "IT Department" and the other option is titled "Personal". I have never understood this because there is no IT department there is only me. But GoDaddy created it on their own. In the past, I could use either option with the same password and get to the same resources. However, the AI finally said that this may be where the problem is - confusion between these accounts with the IT account not allowing the audio out. Since my computer is regularly doing windows etc updates , I assume this is where the problem originated. However, I am totally lost on what to do next and this is crippling me.

Unfortunately, the "Test mic and speaker" option is not working as expected. No sound is produced for the selected speaker device even when the speaker is known to work perfectly well with Teams.

Nevertheless, if you press the "Yes, I can hear it" button, a window with Microphone test will open.

Proceed with the microphone test, i.e. say something and then pause. If you hear your voice played back after the beep, then both your microphone and speaker are working.

Hi @dale simmons

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Based on your description, the fact that Teams audio output stopped working while video and microphone functionality continue to work, and audio works normally in other applications, suggests that the problem may be related to how Teams is routing audio rather than a general Windows sound issue.

Regarding the two sign-in options ("IT Department" and "Personal"), while I understand why this appears suspicious, it would be unusual for an account-related issue to affect only Teams audio output while leaving video, sign-in, and microphone functionality unaffected. The duplicate account prompt is often caused by the same email address being associated with both a Microsoft personal account and a Microsoft 365 work or school account.

To help narrow down the cause, could you please confirm the following:

  • Are you using the Teams desktop app or Teams on the web?
  • In Teams > Settings > Devices, what device is selected under Speaker?
  • If you run a Test Call in Teams, do you hear:
    • The ringtone?
    • The test message playback?
    • Neither of the above?
  • Does the issue occur in both the Teams desktop app and Teams web app (https://teams.cloud.microsoft/)?
  • Additionally, could you let me know your current Windows version and build number?

The results of the Teams test call and whether the issue also occurs in Teams on the web will help determine whether this is a Teams client issue, an audio device routing issue, or something related to the account configuration.

I look forward to your update.
