how to preclude it from simply reinstalling itself once uninstalled which does fix keyboard 'crashing' issues. Interminable apparently global problem post certain updates.

Is there a plan to prevent this from happening in terms of microsoft revamp and to stop this particular update from installing to computer?

    Hello,

I understand that uninstalling KB5127648 restores the keyboard operation, but Windows Update installs it again.

KB5127648 is a cumulative security update released on October 13, 2026. Currently, keyboard and power failures are not listed as known issues for this update on the official Windows release health pages. Therefore, it is not yet possible to confirm whether Microsoft is planning a specific fix or safeguard hold for this behavior.

As a temporary workaround, after uninstalling KB5127648, pause Windows Update:

    1. Open Settings > Windows Update.
    2. Under Pause updates, select an end date.

This should temporarily prevent Windows from downloading the update again. However, it is not a permanent block. When the pause expires or updates are resumed, Windows will check for updates again.

Permanently disabling Windows Update is not recommended because cumulative updates contain important security fixes.

To help determine whether this is a device-specific compatibility issue, could you provide the following information?

    • Windows version and OS build shown by winver
    • Computer manufacturer and exact model
    • Whether the keyboard is built-in, USB, or Bluetooth
    • Whether installing KB5127648 reproduces the failure every time
    • Whether the keyboard works in BIOS/UEFI or the Windows Recovery Environment
    • More details about the reported power issue, such as whether it occurs during startup, shutdown, sleep, or resume

You should also report the reproducible behavior through the Feedback Hub, including the KB number, computer model, reproduction steps, and diagnostic data. This information can help Microsoft investigate whether the issue affects a specific device, driver, or hardware configuration.

If pausing the update resolves the immediate problem, please let us know. The device model and Windows build will help determine the next troubleshooting step.
