What type of phone is this? iPhone or Android?

Define third party log in, what do you mean by that?

Test the same account in Teams on the web or desktop: if it works there, reset the phone app; if it fails everywhere, send the error details to your organization’s IT administrator for account-side diagnostics.^1^

If Teams works on the web or desktop

This indicates that the problem is limited to the mobile sign-in flow.

    1. Update Microsoft Teams from the phone’s app store.
    2. Force-close Teams and reopen it.
    3. If you use Teams Free/personal and can reach its settings, select: Profile picture → Settings → Data and Storage → Clear temporary files, then Clear app data.^2^
    4. If you cannot reach Teams settings, uninstall Teams, restart the phone, reinstall Teams, and sign in again.
    5. Complete any additional verification requested by your organization. Being redirected to an organization’s third-party sign-in page can be part of its configured authentication process; the 4vlpo tag and -42104 code do not identify a publicly documented cause.

Do not remove or reset Microsoft Authenticator unless your administrator confirms that another verification method is available. Removing its account can prevent the phone from approving future sign-ins.^3^

If Teams also fails on the web or desktop

Copy the troubleshooting details from the error page and send them to your IT administrator, including:

    • Tag: 4vlpo
    • Code: -42104
    • Timestamp
    • Correlation ID
    • Confirmation that authentication was redirected through a third-party provider

    The administrator should:

    1. Run Microsoft 365 admin center → Teams Sign-in diagnostic for your account.
    2. Review the corresponding Microsoft Entra sign-in event using the timestamp and correlation ID.
    3. Check the failure reason and any Conditional Access, device-compliance, or third-party federation result.
    4. If diagnostics do not identify the problem, open a Microsoft 365 support request and provide those same troubleshooting details.

The Teams Sign-in diagnostic requires a Microsoft 365 administrator and is unavailable in some sovereign Microsoft 365 environments.^1^ Microsoft also advises contacting the administrator when an unlisted status code cannot be resolved locally.^4^

If this is a personal Microsoft account rather than a work or school account, use Microsoft Teams consumer support because there is no organization administrator to inspect the sign-in logs.
