I use a Logitech headset and my mic always worked until i put a PS5 controller in my PC. From then on my PC only used the mic of the PS5 controller and even when the controller isn´t connected to my PC it doesn´t register my voice in the headset. I already tried changing stuff in the Hardwear and on different system apps but it doesn´t work. I also bought an Y-Splitter because AI recommended me to but this doesn´t work either. Please help me.

    Hi G,

I understand how inconvenient this is, particularly because the Logitech microphone stopped working only after the PS5 controller was connected. The controller may have become the default recording device and Windows may not have switched back automatically.

With the controller disconnected, press Windows + R, enter mmsys.cpl, and open the Recording tab. Enable Show Disabled Devices, then check whether the Logitech microphone is listed. If it is, enable it and set it as both the Default Device and Default Communication Device. You may also temporarily disable the PS5 controller microphone to prevent Windows from selecting it again.

If the Logitech microphone is not listed there at all, please let me know whether the headset uses USB, Bluetooth, or a 3.5 mm plug. This is important because a Y-splitter is only appropriate for certain analog headset and PC port combinations. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Since the issue started after the PS5 controller microphone was used, Windows is likely still using the wrong input device or the headset mic is no longer set up correctly.

Try this in order on Windows 11:

    1. Check that the headset is not muted and is connected correctly.
      • If the Logitech headset has a mute switch or button, make sure it is off.
      • If it is wireless/Bluetooth, confirm it is paired and connected.
    2. Set the Logitech mic as the active input device.
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • In Input, under Choose a device for speaking or recording, select the Logitech headset microphone.
      • If the headset mic appears there, select it.
    3. Test the microphone in Windows.
      • In the same Sound page, select the > next to the microphone.
      • Under Microphone test, select Start test, speak normally, then select Stop test.
      • Use Play under Recorded sample to confirm whether Windows is capturing sound.
    4. Make sure microphone privacy access is enabled.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
      • Turn on Microphone access.
      • Turn on Let apps access your microphone.
      • If the problem is in a specific app, make sure that app is also allowed.
      • For desktop apps, make sure Let desktop apps access your microphone is turned on.
    5. Run the Windows sound troubleshooter.
      • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
      • Scroll to Advanced.
      • Choose Input devices under Troubleshoot common sound problems.
      • If needed, select All sound devices under Advanced for more options.
    6. If the headset mic still is not detected, reinstall the audio drivers.
      • Open Device Manager by right-clicking Start.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click each audio device and select Uninstall device.
      • Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device when shown, then select Uninstall.
      • Restart the PC.
      • After restart, Windows should reinstall the audio devices automatically.
      • If it does not, open Device Manager, right-click Sound, video and game controllers, and select Scan for hardware changes.
      • Then right-click the audio driver and select Update driver.
    7. If the mic is detected but volume stays very low or silent:
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • In Input, select the microphone.
      • Under Input settings, use Start test and adjust the Input volume slider.

If the headset microphone still does not appear after these steps, the main supported next step is driver reinstallation, since Windows not detecting the mic usually points to an audio driver issue.
