Scheduling and managing events using Outlook.com calendar
Open the calendar event in a private window or another supported browser, make a small list-and-color change, save it, and reopen it to determine whether Outlook.com itself is stripping the formatting or the original browser session is malfunctioning.
Run a controlled test
- Copy the current notes somewhere safe, such as Notepad or Word, before editing.
- Open a private/InPrivate browser window and sign in to Outlook.com.
- Create a new test event rather than modifying the existing event.
- In its notes/body:
- Enter three separate list items.
- Apply a different text color to one or two words, if that command is available.
- Select Save, close the event, refresh the calendar, and reopen it.
There are user reports of new Outlook removing calendar-event formatting after saving, but no accepted resolution is documented for the closest matching report ^1^. Microsoft’s Outlook.com known-issues page also does not currently identify this exact calendar-note formatting symptom ^2^.
Interpret the result
- The test works in the private window or another browser: the issue is limited to the original browser profile or session. Sign out, close all Outlook.com tabs, clear that browser’s Outlook.com cache and cookies, restart the browser, and test again. Be aware that clearing cookies signs you out of websites. Microsoft uses this sequence for Outlook.com browser-state problems ^2^.
- The formatting is removed in multiple browsers: this points away from a local browser problem. Keep the notes as plain text or simple lists temporarily, and report the reproducible formatting loss to Outlook.com support.
- Only the existing event fails: recreate that event and paste in unformatted text first, then rebuild the list manually. Preserve the original event until the replacement saves correctly.
Color clarification
Changing a calendar or category color does not change selected words in an event’s notes. Calendar colors control the calendar’s appearance ^3^, while categories apply a color classification to the event itself ^4^. Neither is a substitute for font-color formatting within the notes body.
Escalate if every browser reproduces it
In Outlook.com:
- Select Help on the top menu.
- Search for calendar event notes formatting lost after save.
- If the suggested articles do not resolve it, scroll to Still need help? and select Yes ^5^.
- Include:
- Browser names and versions tested.
- Whether it affects new and existing events.
- Whether plain text saves while lists or font colors are removed.
- The exact steps needed to reproduce it.
- Screenshots from before saving and after reopening, without personal information.
