An Azure service that integrates speech processing into apps and services.
Hello Roman Sechaud,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A,
Yes, what you’re describing fits within the intended use of your setup. Generating three short clips, saving them, and replaying them locally for private development and listening tests is fine.
Why
- Your subscription covers this purpose. The Azure for Students offer terms cover non-commercial research and efforts to design, develop, test, and demonstrate software applications. Private, local evaluation is exactly that.
- Saving the output is a normal, documented use. The text to speech transparency note states the output audio can be saved as a file or played back on a device.
- The tier restriction is about commercial use. Microsoft moderators have consistently said commercial use of TTS output needs a paid tier on a paid subscription (see this answer). Non-commercial evaluation isn’t what that restriction targets.
Note:
- The Enterprise AI Services Code of Conduct still applies on any tier. If you play the clips to other people during testing, let them know the voice is synthetic.
- If the project later moves toward real patients, distribution, or any commercial use, switch to a Pay-as-you-go subscription with a Standard (S0) Speech resource. Azure for Students doesn’t cover commercial use.
