Hi, I'm a last year student and I have assignment about software deployment using Azure this semester. However, my student account already has a subscription but no permission to create any resource group (yeah there is no assigned role). I looked for help in help + support page but couldn't specify my situation. I tried to send query to regional support team but it says I have no access to engage center. I also tried to active Azure for students plan but it says my account is ineligible. It's great if someone can tell me what's wrong with my account. By the way, the account was provided through the FPT University (Vietnam in case you have never heard about it) and Swinburne University alliance program.

Thank you for your help!

    Hi @DANG NHAT MINH NGUYEN

From what you describe, your account isn't broken. The subscription you see was created by the FPT / Swinburne program, and you were added to it without a role. In Azure, seeing a subscription and being allowed to create things in it are two separate permissions.

    1. Confirm it: in the Azure portal open Subscriptions > (the subscription) > Access control (IAM) > View my access. If no role is listed for you, that's the reason resource group creation fails.
    2. Send that screenshot to your lecturer or the university IT team who manage the subscription. Ask them to give you Contributor on a resource group (or on the subscription) for your assignment.
    3. Once they add the role, sign out and back in to the portal, then create your resources.

The Azure for Students "ineligible" message and the support "Engage Center" error fit the same picture. Your account belongs to the university's tenant, so the university, not Microsoft support, controls access for it.

Did your lecturer mention who manages the Azure subscription for the course?

If this got you deploying, please consider accepting it as the answer. If the role is assigned but you still can't create resources, let me know and I'll be happy to keep helping.
